So I'm talking to an LCD manufacturer in China about making new replacement lcd Panels for the GBA 101. just seeing if there will be much interest, I'm probably going to have to order 100 to 200 at a time so I need a good idea of what the turn around will be moving this stock. I'm waiting on a quote to come back from them and things will go either way from there. any hoo I'm keen to know the demand for this. The price shouldn't be insane (like what they are in eBay ATM haha)
Pardon my ignorance on this, but would you be able to use this screen on a AGS 001 SP or even a regular advance? Bc that would help with the demand alot if they do.
Im pretty sure they will work in the original GBA, though some need a ribbon cable adapter. I would be interested in a few depending on price
Would that be "some GBA models need an adapter", or "some screens"? Anyways, if they do work, and there's a source or DIY instructions for those cables, I'm interested. Let's see a price quote first tho.
I bought a AGS-101 screen specifically to get it installed in a AGS-001, they are not compatible. I still have the screen, so if anyone is up for it, just message me.
I'd buy a bunch of them (30-40) if prices were OK. I was paying about £12-13 a screen before supply dried up.
Ok guys just keep in mind if this goes ahead I'm getting new screens manufactured. No one in china or anywhere still has or makes these anymore. I'm talking to an LCD manufacturer and where going to starting from scratch which means that they are going to have to set up equipment just for this run (not sooo bad as it sounds) I have gotten a quote back on a tiny 100 peice order but the price isn't very good so I'm going to see what they say about 1000 peice lot. thanks
given that the supply of ags-101 screens appears to have run dry, I'd certainly be interested, and I'm sure others would as well as modding original gba's with the 101 screen has become popular
I'm going to get a few quotes for different lots first and see which will be the most economical but I doubt price will be under $20 a peice..
Ok if I order 100 that will make the LCDs $45 each SO the rrp I'll put on them is going to be $55 pp But for Assembler members (have to have 20 post count) I'll make it $45.10pp USD Remember these are brand new not used like a lot of people where selling.
were* Well, to be honest as long as there's no more gameboys being junked out just for the screen would be good. As long as the quality is alright, no way would I buy sight unseen.
All original GBA models will need a ribbon cable, some will need a 40 pin to 32 pin I think. If I remember right the AGB-001s screen wires are on the bottom of the screen and the AGS-101 is on the top (or vise versa) and some 001 models had 32 pin and some had 40 pin connectors. I have been trying to find an AGS-101 to salvage a screen out of, which is a shame to trash out a perfectly good handheld for the screen, but there is no other choice at the moment. I found some on craigslist, but when I emailed the guy to find out if any of the 5 he was selling were 101s, he must have checked that model out and said he had 3 but he is changing the price on those 3 from $30 to $60
$45 is pretty expensive just for a screen although understandable, I'd probably want to see an example before buying, although it is something I'd be interested in. If they end up as good or nicer than the original AGS-101 then I'll definitely buy a few but I'd probably want to see what this run is like first.
If you could somehow get these screens to be compatible with the front lit GBA SP, it think you'd have a LOT of interest! Right now, there's no easy way of getting a backlit screen into the original SP.
