Can somebody have a look at their genuine lcd and let me know the part number please, there may be a cheaper option here...
Did this thread die or is there still some action going on? I am interested in some original gba backlit lcd's.
probably the server outage took this tread to sleep. dint saw it, might be interested (but got a bad experience with quotes from china actually)
Sorry guys, been busy with moving and stuff. Does anyone have the SHARP part number for the display, this should make things easier...
I'm also definitely interested... I hope this works out, because there aren't any kits for sale for modding the original GBA anymore.... lol, guess my post count got reset (facepalm)
My GBA is already open on my table, I can do it too Just tell us where to look and whoever gets it first I guess
Honesty you don't want to replicate the original LCD. The replacements were a much better part. That said, I can most likely dig up the part number (as well as numbers on at least 2 manufacturers who produced the replacement units). I would be interested in about 1,000 pcs to start. But I need them to be in the $10-15 range. So we'd probably be looking at an MOQ of 4000-5000pcs. in order to reach that price. 45 bucks a pop is WAY more than I would spend on them.
I was under the impression that there were a bunch of AGS-101 screens still hanging around on eBay and AliExpress. I know there are AGS-001 screens, too. Also, yes, you can use an AGS-101 screen with an AGS-001 motherboard. You need to modify the board first, though. I have an image of how to do it, but can't really be bothered uploading it right now. Should be easy to find with a quick search, though. If not, I can post it for anyone that can't find it and wants it.
It'd be awesome if you could post that, everything I'd read about using a 101 in a 001 console said "nope". Could you do a similar mod for the original GBA or the GBC?
The original GBA requires a special ribbon cable adapter, which differs depending on the GBA revision. You can find the kits on eBay with the AGS-101 included. Anyway, here are the photos. I've had to upload them in a zip file because there were a lot more than I thought. Also, Rose-Colored Gaming has a good guide for the original GBA (I've chucked it in the zip file instead of hot-linking to it. I thought that was fairer). There are more in-depth guides out there for getting the right adapter (32-pin or 40-pin, and I believe there are two variations on both of those if I remember correctly), but apart from that, it tells you exactly what to do. https://www.dropbox.com/s/cutr8y0ldpnjj9g/AGS-101.zip?dl=0
