You know, that BIOS should work on a MEGA-CD2 too ... ;)

*Stares at Mega CD 2 units lying about*

    :encouragement:

Wait, I still have no sockets... damn!
How come they got the EPROMs to me so quick but not the sockets?!?!

You can just use a flashcart that supports BIOS loading.

Where's the fun in that? :wink-new:
Besides, I've got to put some sort of BIOS back into the Aiwa Mega-CD Game Unit right? Hahaha!

I've just used the Hakko 808 on my Sophia Systems Programming Box A-Bus board. Thank you all for recommending it, absolutely no regrets at all.
That thing slices through solder holding caps to mainboards like softened butter goes onto the back of a cat.

No worries, they (de-solder gun's) are absolutely FANTASTIC! I am really glad I got mine, when I re-capped my Sega CD2 (last rev) it made it so much easier due to all the SMD stuff on the under-side of the board.

    Did you source yours locally?

Keep the filters up to it as well (the white ceramic ones), those get dirty pretty quickly. Again, I bought them in bulk from the states. Prime Electronics quoted me about $10 PER FILTER, I got a strip of 10 from the states for about the same (bought 5 lots so 50 all up).

I am actually looking forward to recapping things now. It seemed so daunting before.
Now it's more like a fun adventure!

Picked mine up from the states. We have them local? I didn't even think. Just jumped on eBay and swooped on one.
$10 per white fluffy thing? Geez, I'll have to look into getting more if they are chewed through that fast.
I guess it is like solder though, you can never have enough!

I usually replace the filters every 2 empties of the cartridge (if you get my drift), but it does vary a bit. I also replace them quicker i guess as a filter is cheaper than clogged up parts.

Element 14 sell them here, but sit down at the price.

*EDIT here is Element 14 Au's price for the gun

    http://au.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=1286211&MER=MER-BN-PR-PG-1286211

    $640.42.....

It is a bitch to find as it is in the wrong section "soldering station accessories"? Really? So not under "desoldering"?

But they are nicer on the filters than prime was though at $15 for a 10 pack, maybe Prime didn't want my business that day. I do recal the sales staff saying they only had 6 pieces (single filters) in stock.

Also I used my Desoldering gun last night/this morning doing some game pad repairs (mega drive, XBOX) where the cord was either damaged where it comes out of the pad (so cut back, drill out cord grip and re-use) or the cord needed replacing.

    Yikes! $600!
How slow / fast does the cartridge fill up anyway?
I should really read the manual but it flew behind a bench... Hahaha!

It's all work dependant. You can tell when it is full (or near to) by the sound it makes. When it is empty the sound is "baa" when it is near full it is "brr".

Links are dead, can anyone make some new links? I just discovered this BIOS, and I'd like to add this to my Mega-and Sega-CD BIOS collection.
