Sigourney Weaver is getting pretty old to be playing Ripley though, at least the way the character was in the first two movies.

This is true I'm sure the story will explain it.

Sleep capsules malfunctioned so they aged... Problem solved. If they do reboot it after Aliens they better bring back Michael Biehn. The original Solid Snake definitely should have been a bigger star than he was.

Sounds like it could be good. Neill Blomkamp is a good director, although I feel Elysium could've been better. It had an interesting story and some cool visuals, but I felt like it didn't have much substance to it. Overall, I thought it was okay, but I was expecting more. District 9 was good, though.

What I like about Neil is how his movies blend CG so well with reality, everything he does looks real, hyper real. Elysium was ok, District 9 was excellent. Chappie seems to be more in that vein bit of a continuation of his early work.

Alien 3&4 were silly, not scary at all. Aliens had a lot of actions but still had the potential to make you shit your pants. The franchise needs that.

I don't think they could have picked any better guy than Neil.

David Fincher would also tell you that Alien3 never happened. He completely distanced himself from that movie. Good thing because that would be considered his worst movie.

I have two words: Assembly Cut. Suddenly, Alien 3 isn't that bad... if only Fincher had returned to produce his own director's cut or even just a commentary to explain what went so terribly wrong in his opinion!

Alien 3's production was a clusterfuck of different scripts and already built sets that had to be incorporated into the movie. The Blu-Ray set has some great making of segments, which are easily my favorite thing about Alien 3.

Eric Red's rejected script for Alien 3 is easily found on the Internet, and is practically a must read because of how hilariously bad it is.

Indeed. One of the reasons Alien 3 was so bad was Corporate meddling. Fincher didn't actually like the script. He was railroaded creatively and treated as if he had zero experience/knowledge.

TBH I didn't think Alien 3 was that bad, at least not after watching the assembly cut a few years later. I saw it at the time it came out and pretty much didn't like it, but then I was expecting Aliens 2 (ie marines, big weapons, lots of gung-ho action etc), watching it now that I'm older I can appreciate it a bit more.

If you want to read what Aliens 3 could have been (ie Awesome), have a read of the William Gibson script that was never used:

Not really...especially the way they'v been going lately. Not bad, but not as good as before. Alien 3 is fine, even w/ it's few flaws. It's shot better than the first two

    Which one is that?

EDIT: Okay, I think I read that one as a young man... I bought a paper copy at a comic convention in the 90's for like $15. It was total shit. :)

Oh no, I didn't mean the worst Alien movie. I meant David Fincher's worst movie. Pretty much everything he's been a part of after that has been critically and commercially viable.
