Because Alienware makes absolutely none of the components in their computers, and computers are generally evaluated on preformance, usage isn't necessary for an exclamation like "Alienware=suck". "Alienware=suck" should have nothing to do with their computer's preformance, but other factors such as value/money, reliability and support. Alienware "specializes" in "high-end" computers, and they charge you extensively for the brand name, thats a fact. The only difference between a comparable Dell, Gateway, Compaq, Sony is the name. In fact all of those brands have a high overhead and thus bend you over for it. The pros to owning an Alienware are only apparent if you like their custom cases (or case badges on older Alienwares), or you enjoy the name/recognition from other "high-end" computing enthusiasts. I can say Alienware sucks, and I have used one (not that it makes any difference) but the cohearantly reaction should be "why?" IMO, any brand name computer is no better than the rest. The sole reason I would buy a brand name computer, EVER, is because they sport a case not available for purchase seperately.
Dell make damn nice laptops. Mine survived an 11 foot drop, and we're talking 5 years ago. I think its IBM who make that one you can allegedly stamp on. Never been a huge fan of IBM laptops though - they looksed so boxy for so long! Always looked dated to me. Alienware - overpriced junk. When they started doing that Area 51 case or whatever they call it, they were I think £1500. I could've made the same PC with no profit for £800, including VAT. Oh, but mine didn't include that 100 point check or whatever - although I would've gladly "optimized" it if you wanted. And mine didn't have that remote diagnosis thing, either... but if spyware and trojans are your thing, I'm sure I could find some As for cold cathodes etc. I read a report that they would, over time, cause the plastics of cables to become brittle and crack. Don't want that, thankyouverymuch - no shorts in my PC! Also, rounded cables suck and are supposed to decrease your data transfer.
If you go on wholesale IT websites, you can find the cases Alienware use before they have stuck all that extra shit on there, so you could just buy one of these cases for I believe it's about £6, and make your own "AlienPoop" brand PC's that look exactly the same, play exactly the same, but cost 1/3 less.
