This gets to me, and I'm gonna give a spontaneous possibly incomprehensible explanation why.

You do realize the amount of prototypes that have been released throughout time, right? How else do you think the world has them to enjoy? I'm sure you've enjoyed some yourself, including that RE on GBC. How did you get to play it? Because people shared it.

I personally will never understand the idea of wanting to not preserve a game for all time by spreading it, but rather only wanting to preserve its value to... itself? I know if I ever come across any prototypes, it will be my number one priority to share it one way or another, because look at all the other prototypes out there that have ever been released. I've enjoyed the heck out of the privilege to even being able to play these games that otherwise would have been lost in time if people didn't share. When Bio Force Ape was found, possibly the most elusive unreleased NES game known, it wasn't kept to the owners because they wanted to preserve the games legendary status. They shared it because otherwise the game is no better off than still being lost in time forever. When you keep it to yourself because you want to be exclusive and special(and sure, preserve the games status and value to... itself, whatever that's like.. supposed to be worth?), you're not really doing a favor for the whole internet that's probably pulled more favors for you, the average prototype enthusiast, than you'll possibly ever know to acknowledge.

When a prototype is shared it's preserved throughout history, and even though more likely than not only the proto itself and not the person that shared it will be remembered, you've at least saved something that could otherwise have been lost to history. What good is a prototype, a piece of history of the hobby you love, to just sit in your closet and being kept to yourself after you've played it and then forget about it? In that case you've pretty much only paid just for the brief while to enjoy it for yourself, then once you're done it just sits there and possibly the media its own will die before you do. That's it, it's gone forever.

I understand in the end we all have our own ideals, but as far as your specific stance goes, I don't understand it at all. I understand it being an option to have, but I don't understand it.

Next time a prototype of something that interests you comes alone, you should think about what it would be like if the people that released it instead kept it to themselves for the same reasons you have. You're not really doing anyone any favors. Of course there's the age old argument that you don't owe anyone anything, but I'm seriously doubting you haven't enjoyed some of the things out there that have been released by people that didn't owe you anything either. But they shared anyway.

At least with this specific game there is a group that are releasing it that are being very generous, so I would say you're going to yet again get the privilege soon enough to enjoy another game that could have been lost in history forever. All the while you keep what you have to yourself. Thanks for that.

I was talking to friend on AIM and he said he saw Greatest TR Beta's RE video before it was deleted. Has told me it looks like the alpha build with the reskined Chris model.

Also GManWillis, I know how you feel. I feel we've been cheated in the past. If you were to release it I'd be happy.

I'm just tired of the ridiculous "OOO KEEP IT PRIVATE! HEY EVERYBODY LOOK WHAT I GOT!" bullshit. The only reason I haven't "leaked" released" "upped" (whatever you wanna call it) the 40% build is because of what the "team" is doing behind the scenes with other massive Resident Evil Beta deals, but this bullshit really gets me. It's been almost 16 years, and this site is completely dedicated to unreleased OR released video game preservation. How do we preserve if it's kept away from us? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh come on, don't tell me you spent all that money just to feel special.

Here's something to consider. Since it's a backup of the original disc, then that likely means that others are floating around. You can keep the disc to yourself and hold onto it's value, or do a community dump and make some cash on it while you have the chance. If you hold onto the disc, you risk giving someone else an opportunity to dump it, leaving you with a coaster. The disc has absolutely zero value. It's not the original disc from Capcom, it's just a bootleg. It's the data that's on the disc that holds value. Once the data eventually gets released, your copy is worth $0.

If it's the value that concerns you, then I'd recommend doing a community dump. Name a price and I'm sure many fans would be willing to contribute and pay you for the value of the data (plus profit). If you don't, someone else will.

My thoughts exactly is that when wither the team or Gman release it, sorry to say slippy, but your copy will hold no value.

As far as I understood it, the current mod team aren't the owners but were commissioned by the owner? In that case it might be better to just wait out their planned release, as to not annoy the guy who was nice enough to even decide to share it to begin with. I know the rage that Mr Sippy has put in all of us here(Mr Sippy induced rage, there's something you're not gonna say outloud in front of friends any time soon =p), but let's not get too hasty. Especially if they're working on other obtaining other protos behind the scenes? Regardless of the wait we're still all having to incur, it at least sounds like they're doing more than any of these other people like Mr Sippy will ever do.

What the team is doing will not be affected by a release of any 1.5 build. What they are doing is modifying, not preserving.

The truth is, along with the legit 40% 1.5 Magazine review disc, the PlayStation Museum Curator needed the extra money for personal life problems, and was coerced to sell a handful of copies via burned CD+Rs months ago. This just happens to be the first one to surface and be up for sale. The PlayStation Museum Curator had 3 builds of 1.5. Early build, 40% build, Final build. 'Walla.

Sippy has a choice to make.

You accuse for scam and hacking into someone computer in the past.it has nothing to.with the value of the disc. Leave me alone ! Greatest Tr I might give you back the RED 1.5 back due these people after me.

Well whatever comes of this I wish for the best. While I don't want the team to get angry, I really do want to get this beta.

So this build that Sippy would be getting is one of those builds Curator was selling, you think? Because otherwise, while it may seem like devaluing his build if you release what you've got, his would be different thus probably still be unique in its own. In which case it's not really showing it to him or anything. I guess. Unless that makes it lose its monetary value. But he seems more concerned with preserving its "value to itself," which I'm assuming he means its legendary status rather than monetary...

I have all 3 builds, but making the first 1.5 release a crappy nasty yucky buggy early build would be insulting, which is why I am pushing more towards the 40% build.

You just don't know how many tears we've shed over 1.5 over the years.
