The recovery should work fine. Like I said, the December 00 disk works fine on my kit.

it's alpha 2 because of the parts, not some engraving heh. Anything you want me to check out while I'm home?

If its not to much trouble, try see-ing if a recovery disc boots without the usb plugged it.

    Thanks

If any one didn't know the engraving i was referring to, here is a picture!

The point I made is that the engraving doesn't mean much if the hardware has been upgraded.

Anyway, I didn't have a chance to set anything up, couldnt dig out the wires and a TV with the time I had at home.

got the part, and nothing, just a cursor, it might be the recovery? but tbh i don't know.
I know it tries to load the disc, rather than boot windows.

    EDIT: Feb/23

Tried booting from a dec/00 disc and same thing, only this disc had a batch file on the disc to load from rather than the other dosc that just had a rom file. I cant get it to boot from the disc just a cursor. Maybe if i can get into dos and then manualy boot the batch file? doubt it. i dont know, somthing wrong, maybe somthing not. Im going to try and get a later 2001 recovery. If anyone has any ideas whatsoever please help. i dont think its the recovs as ive tried 2 and no luck, might be settings in bios. any and all ideas are welcome.

Do you have the right software on the video card? (Firmware I guess).

Is the boot sequence correctly set under your BIOS settings? Not sure what the Alpha II requires but a general setting would be: Floppy => CD/DVD => HDD.

Well, your HDD is currently plugged in as a "slave" and not "master" it seems. And I'm insure if it's in the primary IDE slot.

Use the END of the IDE cable and plug that into the hard drive, make sure the IDE jumpers on the drive are set to Master/Single and make sure the end plugged into the motherboard is connected to the primary IDE majiger.

In the Primary ide wire, has disc drive and the hdd, in the right hand ide primary

did all that, and still, nothing

    EDIT: borman, 2 things
    whats your boot order,
what is your hdd set on, and whats your disc drive set on. (ie, master, slave, cs)
