Disney atleast does an ok job on the Ghibli films, but most dubs are all over the board on quality. I do like the Tenchi Muyo dubs but thats mainly cuz I grew up watching it on toonami originally

    I disagree.

However, I think they should always offer original sound track with subtitles on the same disc. Dubbed versions attract more people to anime, who will then hopefully expand their knowledge and adopt original soundtrack movies.

Given the choice, I take subs over dubs, couldn't care less about dubs except if they get funny

    We need Dubs.

Frankly I can't imigine Watching Trigun in anything BUT English. While I can go either way in Cowboy Bebop I'd rather watch the Dub.

They're the exception not the rule but I find alot of Dubs to be better than the original.

I've always preferred subs myself, but each to their own I guess.

I personally prefer watching it on english :p
most movies are way better when seen in english, lets take American Dad as an example, at the beginning of each episode they have the newspaper say something funny, for the german version that just say the literal translation which, of course, mostly doesnt make too much sense and destroys the joke. Friggin annyoing.

Then they should learn. We live in a society that is largely based on the written (and spoken) word. Not being able to read well is almost like not being able to put on your own clothes.

Of course, there are people who simply never had the opportunity (due to poverty, location, etc.). Those people have an excuse, and I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about people who have been taught to read since they were children, constantly around written text, and are somehow not able to read well.

The problem is probably that they don't read long texts (i.e. books) often enough to be able to read them at a reasonable speed. I didn't used to read for fun, but I do now and I really enjoy it. Saying books are boring or "too academic" is a shitty excuse. Books are just like movies - there are really high-brow ones, but there's plenty of action/thriller/romance type stuff that's accessible to anyone.

Reading exercises your mind and your ability to understand and use your own language. Personally, it also helps me get to sleep because it focuses my mind cuts out the clutter. There is really no downside to reading. Do it.

Illiteracy is a weapon, and so is language.

Forcing people into illiteracy is controlling them, ensuring that they will not rebel.

Language, and the distortion of discourse, is a way to perpetuate the status quo.

Language is, as well, the only way to break a regime's hold on people.

Limiting knowledge is establishing control. That's why authoritary regimes are always anti-intellectual. Nobody with a capacity for critical thought can actually stand being oppressed and controlled.

Reading, learning, writing - those are some of the most powerful acts of anarchy one can perform.
