American subcultures: Focus on BOUNCE

a buddy of mine has gotten into this music a bit, especially the likes of Big Freedia. I see a little merit in the music but was unaware of the ass-related culture. Not impressed.

I'm amazed that these guys play it straight, elements of the video seem straight lifted from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air intro mixed with Rick James "Super Freak" but done without any sense of humour...
I do not understand haha...

It started in New Orleans as a gay subculture, and the local women
would show up to these events and show off in a "safe" atmosphere.

The twist of course is that bounce is based upon how FAST once can bounce their ass...
People compete to show who can bounce fastest, with the inner thigh and buttocks frequently
making a slapping noise called "clap".

Bounce is unusual for America music as it is non-gender specific music. It has straight and gay singers
and has evolved into "twerk" videos which are a highly sexualized version of "bounce"

You may hear in common hip-hop "let me see it clap", which is a reference to bounce and twerk.

It has become part of black culture in the deep south to the point that it is not seen as overtly sexual to "bounce"
And is seen at normal parties, even as part of children's play. Akin to the the almost nude carnival dancers in Brazil
hired for children's parties.

So I present to you the unusual American spectacle of "bounce"

loving these beats. While it can be picked up mainstream as tongue in cheek, the dance will have to be somewhat hidden. The dancing reminds me of drugged up women in heat, grinding back and forth like a nympho craving the stimulating fullness. It's 100% animal.
