I wanted to buy a Macbook. I REALLY wanted to buy a Macbook. I'm fed up with stupid things going wrong with Windows and SO MANY TIMES has something gone wrong with Windows that made me just want to burn Redmond to the ground. Not to mention that XBOX fanboys have really been racking my nerves lately.

So this morning I read about new Macbook Pros.
Then I wanted to punch Tim Cook in the face.....

Which to be fair I wanted to do to Steve Jobs before the Reaper did that for me. The New Macbook pros are sexy, they have that touch pad on the keyboard. No USB Ports AND IF YOU WANT EVERYTHING IT'S OVER $4K It's like Tim Cook only wants trendy Millennial douche bags to buy Macs. I have the money I just don't want to SPEND THE MONEY on a computer that I have no idea what I'm actually going to do with it.

SO time to swallow my pride and once again Give Microsoft money after vowing just over a month ago to never do it again. I can get a Lenovo thinkpad with everything the Mac has for 1/4th the price. BUT I have to deal with Windows 10.

"BUT LINUX" as a friend of mine said.

Name one Music producer that uses Linux? Or for that matter people that use Linux for Not geek stuff?

(thread title should be AN old man...damn typos and forum not letting me correct my mistakes)
    Modern Technology sucks.

Im sorry GodofHardcore but you wont get any better than Windows. If you hate constant errors etc you will have a Mac or Linux computer 10000x as much. Just stick to windows, macs are overpriced pieces of hubba bubba shite.
Christie Isaac uses Linux to note one.

People want to be fancy so they buy overpriced hardware. They look stylish and "futuristic" between a billion quotation marks so people like it. Same shit with Iphones, why the hell do people buy new phones every year? But lets not get off topic. Mac is such a piece of crap that people dont even bother writing viruses for it LOL. I think Off Ocean also used Linux.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but statements like these are just so out of place. With the exception of gaming, both Windows and Apple systems are on par and are both great workstations. If you're happy with a Windows system, great, if you're happy with an Apple system great. It's a given that if you look at components alone Apple hardware is always more expansive than a Windows machine, however paying the premium also gives you acces to Apple's ecosystem which is for some worth the entree fee alone.

My fellow dutch friend. Its a fact that Macs can do barely anything. A windows PC is 1/100th the price and does everything a mac does plus more. GodofHardcore seems to agree.
EDIT: This is considered offensive? Why?

No no no no, Don't get this the wrong way. It is not a flame or hate thread. @GodofHardcore Filip Horvat also uses Linux. If this offends anyone, i had no intention of that.

There's also the fact the the iPad I use can get so unresponsive sometimes I just want to chuck it against a wall.

I think you fail to see the humor in my venting. While the opinion is mine. I'm trying to be funny about it.

It's 2016 everyone is offended by everything

I could mess around with some Linux distro on my Pi I guess. But I can't for the life of me think of a practical non IT use for Linux.

Anywho there's a Lenovo Idea pad I have my eye on and I think it comes bundled with DJ Software.....so that's a plus. Making Music is the reason I'm getting a new computer to begin with.

I think you are on to something. Even if a Nerf computer sounds stupid you could smash it up against a wall or toss it out the window every time it pisses you off and it will not break.... just keep it away from the dog.

Oh man I totally agree with this thread. The new Windows is quite garbage, I want to revert all my computers back to Windows 7, just so that they are reliable again. I'm so sick of dumb crap happening. Same thing with new smart phones, yeah they are super fancy and do all sorts of things, but when it comes to phoning someone my old Sony Ericsson kicks my G3's ass. Sometimes, you want a phone to actually phone.
New Apple stuff is hilarious, "Let's get rid of all those extremely useful ports! Yeah! That will show everyone how forward thinking we are!!!"
No, USB ports are ESSENTIAL, a headphone jack is ESSENTIAL. An escape button on the keyboard (not to mention the other dedicated buttons being axed) is ESSENTIAL. I swear, they're going to start selling "the official Apple Adapter Fanny Pack, never forget a crucial adapter again!"

Was there really any reason to discontinue Windows XP? I think in the big picture it was the best most solid OS ever made. NEVER gave me problems, it ran everything I threw at it. They should've just kept that and built upon it. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO they had to put out Vista...........

Even Windows 7 is giving us some problems right now, a Log out Freeze on one of the accounts on this computer. Windows 7 though the years gave me a few headaches.

I'm dreading having to use Windows 10, but looks like I have no choice.

I would stay away from overpriced Apple hardware. Don't really see any advantage in running OSX, might as well run Linux. If only WINE supported more games I would never go back to Windows.

Windows 10 is a lot better than Windows 7. Windows 7 is horrid, people just like it because Vista was even worse and because they are used to it after all that time.

Personally I find Windows 8.1 better than Windows 10, there is a lot of "stupid stuff" in Windows 10, that you either have to disable, search an alternative for or just get used to.

Classic Shell is a must to get a start menu that's easy to navigate. There are also tools that will disable all the spying stuff.
My favorite is "Send Microsoft info about how I write to help us improve typing and writing in the future".

Just my opinion, which my arguments, all of that reflecting my own feelings and how I manage to have my work done in the most optimised way.

I have to use Windows 10 for clrmamepro and AnyDVD HD. It's an horrible and stupid system. Microsoft doesn't optimise it much. Rather, they hide the dust under the carpet. Technology like SSD helps a lot with that, but I still notice that, because it's not well done enough to be really hidden. And those notifications. Each time I start Windows, I have at least of them, interfering with me trying to work. Also, not directly involved with productivity but still influencing it, the letters on the screen, and globally the GUI, still feels the 90's. They still don't know how to smooth letters and graphics and it shows.

As for Microsoft new computer, I don't understand the hype about it. The only reason it is any good is not because it is actually good, but just because Wacom has been too much lazy and greedy to produce something better, although they could do it in a snap since a very long time. Just, they believed their monopoly was endless and they took a knife on the back from Microsoft. Honestly, it is very well deserved. Still, Microsoft has got a good point: they aim to a niche (pro artists), while doing it sexy enough to give people the will to purchase it. But you complain about Apple overpricing? I saw that Microsoft iMac and I was just astonished at how much they can price this while it looks bulky as hell. Any case modder can do a way better job for the same price.

About Linux, I never took it seriously. It it still an awful chaos of ego wars and it leads to such diseases like systemd, which is basically the new Windows: a pile of wrong choices which spread like a lightning cancer. I use it on my Raspberry units, but that's all and already too much.

For the rest, I use FreeBSD. It's not harder than Linux and I even find it easier. First, all the docs you need are available in a central point. The system is secure and the technical choices remain to the KISS philosophy UNIX is so good for. If needed, I have access to the whole Linux library, although FreeBSD has everything you need, and you can both compile it yourself or just use readymade packages. It's smooth, rock stable (more than Linux, I did enough heavyload production servers to compare) and well managed. Not a wonder Apple use it as a base for macOS.

Everyday wise, my personal computer is a MacBook Pro mid-2012, the very last model Apple made before the Retinas and also what I consider the best laptop Apple ever made. I don't like Retinas and I don't like the very new ones, which are transition models, A.K.A. something you shouldn't buy before the next generation. But, as a technician point of view, I understand why Apple go this way: the more component you have soldered, the less failures you get. I also understand the prices: when you actually do R&D, you know how much it costs. Which doesn't mean Apple is not greedy, but compared to Microsoft's iMac, it's not overpriced.

All that rant leaves us to two options and a conclusion:
    1. Keeping my MBP mid-2012. I have an i7 on it, 16GB of RAM and a SSD I can upgrade anytime. It's a very reliable machine, which works perfectly good although I really give it intensive tasks to do. I plan to keep many years again.
    2. Waiting for PC manufacturers to copy Apple as much as they can for a cheaper price and install a hacked macOS. For now, macOS is the best everyday system I know and I think the most important thing in a computer remains the data more than the hardware. I might myself go that route if nothing better than macOS comes and if Apple doesn't provide me with a hardware update I will want to buy.
    3. Here, my conclusion here is that these days are the worst to buy a new computer. There is a paradigm shift going on and right now, everybody should concentrate on keeping their current hardware in good shape while concentrating on getting the work actually done. But, also, most people should really think about their need of a computer: most people around me are switching to tablets and now believe they don't need anymore a full throttle computer. Which, unless you have specific tasks a tablet is not suited for, is the right decision IMHO.

Well the reason was that it had alot of old exploitations and backdoors that would seem too pointless to fix seeing how it was an old OS. Also,

Still i do agree with you, WinXP is great especially for older games.
Windows 10 is absolute crap, worse spyware than BonziBuddy. Windows 8 and 8.1 are basically those that shall never be named. Not Windows. Windows 7 is great and supports most stuff of all. "Windows 7 is horrid oobleckgahahhsbababsaaaaaaaaa"?
What in the world is that supposed to mean?

You'll all have to tell me what to disable when I get my new Laptop. I'm really just using it to make music maybe bite the bullet and finally get some indie goodness on Steam.
I'll be installing CCleaner right away, Malware Bytes, Anti virus I'm not sure, Lenovo is giving me options.

I'm assuming Lenovo is a good choice. I know HP is shit, and Dell's I'm told tend to bottle neck, that includes Alienware.
