And the #1 thing I use my PS3 for now...is playing PS1 games.

Not sure why either they BARELY look better than they do through PS2 piped through Component in their native resolution. Getting controllers to work has been a pain in the ass.

But the most baffling thing of all. They STILL do not look as good as they did through Bleemcast. There's an odd smooth roughness to Einhander on PS3 where
Bleem in incomplete form made Einhander look Dreamcastish.

So I turn to the experts. What's up with the PS3's Smoothing and Upscaling that makes games on Bleem look better on a Dreamcast through S-VIDEO than on a PS3 with Filters on through HDMI?

    The Mind Boggles.

I guess it's because Bleem runs on a closer resolution to the original source and have better filters.

Bleem's smoothing is alot better than the PS3s, Granted PS1 games with filters on played on PS3 look better than they do on PS3. But Bleem is still better. Provided the game you're playing works in Bleem.

PS1 games are played in their original resolution, and the filter still isn't quite as good as Bleem there either.

Play Classic games on HDTV is looks awful. Use a standard TV then it looks 10 times better than it does on HDTV.

Well I have what I would guess is the now infamous CRT HD set, best of all worlds. There are PC Emulators that Smooth out the PS1 and make them look half way decent even. Yet.......PS3 *head explodes* Granted backgounds tend to look 10x better on PS3 than they do on other platforms.

A shame the PS4 won't run PS1 games, at least not right away I'd love to see a PS1 emulator on PS4 that does what some of the PC Emulators do.

PS1 on PS3 is basicly something like epsxe on software mode

It seems they're promising PS3 games through Gaikai. I don't see how PS1 games will be that much difficult to achieve.

Actually, the issue isn't CRT versus LCD/Plasma/etc but Analog Versus Digital. You want a good analog CRT. That's what these older games were designed for. If you have a HD CRT that doesn't automatically mean you get equal video quality to an older analog CRT of high quality. It would depend on how the HD CRT operates. In my opinion the best thing to do is draw a line somewhere and have newer things on your HDTV and older things on a high quality CRT preferably that accepts RGB, S-Video, and Composite. Maybe component too. I draw the line at the current generation. My PS3 & 360 are on my LCD HDTV. My PS2, GameCube, and all the way back to the NES are on my Analog CRT.

Never play older games on a HDTV except via emulation.

at least they look better than the did at PS3 launch. When the PS3 came out, PS1 and PS2 games looked horrible on them...and there was a unplayable amount of input lag.

My Saturn stuff doesn't look bad at all on my TV and I'm running that through S-Video. I run my N64 through composite and it looks just fine too. PS1 one stuff doesn't looks God aweful to me on PS3, I just think that for what the PS3 is PS1 games should look a little better than they do. Unless the Cell is so compliated they can't assign a core for the task of Smoothing/Upscaling on the level Bleem does. They're playable at least, but my MAS sticks don't seem to work with them (Buttons work stick does not)

Ideally I'd like one of those Highend CRT Monitors for everything Pre this gen. Otherwise I'll Just spring for a scanline generator/Upscaler when this TV Takes a shit and dies.

Actually, no. Bleemcast plays games at a resolution higher than the original PS1 resolution, something close to 480i or 480p if you're using VGA. The PS3 renders PS1 games in their native resolution, and then upscales that. Also, Bleemcast smooths textures, whereas I don't think the PS3 does. There is an option that allows you to do that on a PS2, though. So, the reason Bleemcast "looks better" is because the emulator enhances the games. Personally, I think PS1 games are better played in their native resolution. My reasoning for this is that, when displayed at higher resolutions, polygon bending, which is annoying even at the PS1's native resolution, becomes even more noticeable and annoying. Plus, playing those games in their native resolution is what the developers intended. I think the PS3 actually does a pretty good job of preserving the original image and upscaling it to fit on a modern display. If you don't like the smoothness of the pixels, there's even an option to have square pixels.

Still, your best bet is playing on a PS1 or PS2 over RGB or component on a CRT.

    I have an Idea ,

Buy a PS1 for 10 bucks and use that.

Then buy a PS2 for 20 and USE that as well.

    I already have a PS2.

If the PS2 Menu didn't creep me the fuck out I'd probably mess around with the rendering settings for PS1 games.

Please tell me your joking. It isn't the most exciting menu, but it really just seems like tech demo type stuff. It isn't going to open a portal to hell or to Aperture Science. It may be "creepy," but if this matter is of such importance to you that you created a thread about it, you should go through the menus and prove this guy VVV that you deserve the name "GodofHardcore."

Yeah it seriously gives me the willies. The Sega Master System bios screen doesn't sit well with me either. Yet, the Saturn boot up which has sounds not unlike those of the other two, doesn't bother me at all.

    Yeah I'm weird like that.

That's strange. I don't see what you have to be afraid o... hey, what's that over- AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Ahem, excuse me. Well, if it makes you feel any better, all the monsters from another dimension waiting for you in the darkness in the void of the PS2 menu are probably long dead, and their ghosts will only try to devour you if you get scared. So just stay calm, and I'm sure you'll be okay!
