Just got an android phone and of course want to get some apps from the Android Market. My question is: Is it safe to use my mail gmail account or should i create a google account just for the phone? I'm a bit worried about using my gmail account (e-mail,docs,..) that has some important stuff. If i create a new google account for the phone, will i still be able to use my main google acount (gmail) on the same phone to check e-mails? Sorry if these are dumb questions, but i'm new to the android world.
Personally i created a separate account but that's just because I like to stay organized, just watch out for what the apps have access to they don't monitor the market very well.
Don't know if any of these are of interest to you, but here's what I have installed: Aldiko (ebook reader) Meebo IM OI File Manager OI Shopping List OI Notebook Opera Mini Pkt Auctions (eBay client) RealCalc (extended calculator) Smooth Calendar (improved calendar widget) Haven't tried many games, but I can recommend these: Military Madness Uniwar Zenonia (if you've got a hardware keyboard - the touch controls suck imho)
I use OfficeSuite Pro for my pdf/doc reading on the go needs, if you are rooted I recommend AdFree, it will automate adding loopbacks in your hosts file to stop ad sites from using up data bandwidth while browsing. I haven't tried Oi Notebook, personally I use AK Notepad, it can sync with catch.com if you make an account which is nice.
I use my normal Gmail account on my phone. It's always a good idea to create backups btw, no matter if you have multiple accounts or not. Things you should try: - Google Docs (instant access to your documents); - Trillian (not free, but the best multi account messenger); - OI File Manager (as stated in the previous post); - Trackr (if you are an hiker/biker).
Like most people, I'd actually advice against using a task killer app on Android phones, it can actually slow your phone down. As far as games go, the Android selection sucks compared to the iPhone one, but I've had a lot of fun with Doodle Jump, probably the most simple game imaginable. Dropbox is very useful for syncing files with your computer and other devices.
The irony being that I was finding all the software that stays permanently in memory due to it having no 'exit' feature ground my phone to a halt, so using ATK has actually meant it has improved things (just don't turn on the 'auto quit' mode, else it will stay resident in memory). Plus, the HTC phones seem to take a day and an age to reboot.
I would recommend Astro File Manager, at least my Motorola Backflip doesn't have an integrated file manager so it was one of the first apps I installed. BTW, does anyone know any good RSS reader widgets compatible with Android 2.1?
