They tried to get the PS2 classified as a computer here in the EU because the import taxes on computers are lower than those on "video games of a kind used with a television receiver". The courts threw out their case and Sony lost 50 million €. The PS3 will include some kind of software to pass as "automatic data processing machine". This could be Linux or this cancer fighting thing.
Nowhere, but if it looks convincing it may get the tax discount. BTW, I wonder if SEGA qualified for a similar tax cut from the EU with the Dreamcast. After all, it could run Windows...
The tax thing is not applicable any more. Consoles are not subject to the special import tax these days.
