Well I appreciate and understand your points, and surely there's always room for improvement in every area. This is not disputed.

Ethics and morality however are a subject issue to a grand extent. Some people regard life harder as others. Being lucky enough to live in America is important enough in my view. It's so much better than so many places in the world that even Walmart doesnt seem scary to my eyes.

It may be low for national standards of work but please be more objective. Every country has a lower band of workers, as such is the social pyramid - largely reflecting the principles of electric potential, social potential and financial difference is what makes money flow.

I m sad to say that even in advanced societies such as America the government can't save everyone from being at the very bottom - but at least you get opportunity like in no other country. Just look at people who worked at places like Walmart - those who really wanted to evolve made it, and left the shitty Walmart job. It's up to the person to climb up.

Walmart are a corporate giant, and they're very efficient in what they do, and since what they do is legal, you have to question your legislator for allowing such a treatment if you think wrong has been done instead of just posting on the internet about it. That's a right you have thanks to liberty and democracy ;)

Specifically calling out Target was what made me think you were referring to me, as I was the only other person that mentioned it. Whether or not you were replying to me, there was no need to be as hostile as you were.

    It's w/e, though. No worries.

I don't know, it still sounds like bullshit to me. You make a good point, but someone's health and livelihood is different than an expensive vase or painting. This lady is permanently brain damaged, she can't work even if she wants to.

True, true, but I also think we could be doing more to help those at the bottom, not letting them get screwed by insurance companies for instance. You think this health insurance company would have tried this on someone with the resources to fight back? Something tells me they wouldn't.

Barc0de: why don´t shove your lawyer attitude up your ass. If you want to play the devils advocate, then I can give you some damn good links to fora where they love a good nutty dicussion with a lawyer. Since I am beginning to get VERY tired of your smartass lawyer attitude.

touchy , be a man about it though

I can express my opinion as much as the next guy, I don't see anyone having authority to bad-mouth someone else on the boards, do you?

Different people have different views, that's liberty, so please respect that.

Barc0de: of course I respect it. But your views would fit right in , in the offtopic area of martialarts.dk where you would probably find a kindred soul in a person whos name is Nick. The only hurdle you would have a hard time with, would be the Danish language. But other than that, then Nick and you are both big word jugglers. And well he is married to a Danish politician, but anyway you would fit right in. And the thing is, what I get so damn annoyed over, is that you are always speaking the firms cause, and never the people who gets screwed thanks to a fucked up non ethical codecs the firms have. So do you know what ? I don´t give a flying fuck about the firm. But I do give a damn about the people who gets screwed . I could give you a big example about copyright vs. open source but it woudl only make you laugh when I mentioned what kind of object I would use as argument.
And well, both you and Nick are very slick and slim when it comes to stuff. So you can avoid being cornered.

WDK just can't take it when someone has different opinions than he does. But that recent posting is borderline crybaby. Hell, lets be honest here, I pictured an actual crying Danish man typing that on his PC! "Waaah Waaah I HATE OPINIONS THAT ARENT MINE I SURE LOVE DENMARK!"

And anyways, why do you guys say people who shop at Wal-Mart are stupid? Because they're sheep buying stuff from "The man"? Seems like a good old case of "Its popular, so its cool to hate it", imho. Or perhaps its only because its coming from (and I regret to use the term here, but....) Pinko Commies and / or Stoned hippies. I've heard stories of several companies ripping off the little guy (like someone buying a PC from Circuit City, but they didn't have the actual PC in stock, and they wouldn't give him a refund and etc, but since Wal-Mart is bigger, of course there'll be fuck ups. I'd be interested in reading some stories of customers getting screwed when they buy something, though. But as I said, most of them are probably because the company is so damn big and its natural for people to make mistakes...

The only thing that would have to happen to make me dislike Wal-Mart would be if they bought Gamestop (but still had shitty video game selection).

I have realized, however, that Wal-Marts prices aren't as low as in the store where I work.

Again, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't recall a single person in this thread belittling those who shop at Wal-Mart.

Your name-calling does nothing to back up your opinion and in fact makes it look juvenile. Where would you get the idea that some of the people posting here are "commies" or "hippies?" I'm guessing you mean "communists," which in this context would make no sense, seeing as the primary belief of communists is that the government should be more empowered than the people and that resources should be shared equally amongst everyone. Where "hippie" comes from I'm not really sure, either... maybe you're referring to me? In any case, it looks bad and doesn't make a lot of sense to start doing it.

Taemos: it is just Shane Smith who doesn´t like me. And well me crying ? lol naah I am too good spirited crying over that . But still, I am a social minded democrat. Something we call in Europe a socialdemocrat. But anyway Shane Smith is just trying to make me fly up and do the hoolah at him, with words. And well if Barc0de reads this, then I am down to earth again. But I still believe that playing the devils advocate is not great, when ethics are on the table.
And that is what we have here.

Well, after rereading the thread, I didn't find many examples. I THINK someone *Gaijinpunch* edited his posts a bit. But whatever. He might have edited them so he wouldn't offend. I'd only hate Wal-Mart if they bought out Gamestop only to get shittier titles instead. With some of the posts made its like some of you guys here were personally affected, and I'd like to hear some stories if you have some.

Pinko Commies (and I said I regretted to use the term) and hippies (well, I know I said stoned hippies, but I was annoyed when I posted that) are people as described by Flame Warriors. I just put hippies and Pinko commies together. Some of those types of people are rampant here, and thats why we can't have threads about big businesses and etc, because they are the DEVIL. They aren't exactly communists, its just an old term.

Some of these are noble, but it gets old after the millionth time. I may be considered conservative, but I think some liberals make mountains out of molehills. Its not like Wal-mart is going to start an army and take over the world! And for those of you who think they will, seek help immediately.

Well, SHANE SMITH thought you were throwing a temper tantrum about someone elses opinions. Which is funny, considering you throw "Factpinions" around like there's no tomorrow. Why don't you go back to sending Alchy love letters?

    EDIT:

But seriously, not one person has convinced me of why Wal-Mart is a bad corporation in this thread. Yeah, they sued that brain damaged woman and it surely sucks for her, but when it comes to the actual store? If they don't have what I want, I usually go to another store or shop online. Its that simple for me. Don't know about the rest of you, but thats just for me. For example, most countries, if not all of them, have dark pasts. Would you judge all of Germany just because of WW2? Maybe an ignorant dumbass hillbilly would say something like that. Or someone on Youtube. I hardly see this type of hate for Microsoft on ASSEMbler. MAYBE 3 years ago but not recently. I'm not going to say there's a underlying hatred for America in this thread, but there's certainly been lots of blanket statements and factpinions thrown around, not just in this thread, but all over this board.

Oh yeah, that is the old gay vs nongay argument. This does not get more popular, or for that matter younger. It just gets redefined with newer words and meanings. You said love letters ? Damn, what was the last thing alchy and I discussed ? well that was something about that. And the conclusions was, that I knew he was male from the start, but I just used the "loveletter" as you so plainly call it. To make a reaction, to piss him off. Since I was messing with him, and didn´t alchy and I make some kind of agreement about not going into eachothers spheres , so we didn´t have to piss eachother off. And if we discussed things, then we would not step on eachothers toes in discussions ?
    Or was that you ?

But anyway, still I believe alchy and I are square about things, compared to you. So would you please stick your damn heavy and obese feet the hell away from me ?

Anyway, if the moderators wants to remove my message to Shane Smith, and vice versa. Then go right ahead. Since what ever Barc0de and I discussed had nothing to do with

    Mr. Casual.

Edit: you think "we" aka. "pinkos" "pinkys" "hippies" "commies" "so ci a lists " "socialdemocrats" what ever the fuck you are babbling about, are the devil. Then you are wrong.

    @ WDK:

I am not supporting the Firm or the little guy. I am supporting the financial model we all have all embraced, regulated capitalism.

The Key word in that is "regulated", which means the government has a say in what happens.

My whole point, as a studier of Laws is that if there's something unethical yet it's legal, there are ways of resisting this and demanding change through the proper channels.

Walmart, and any other big company, uses as much space as they can to expand their business - there's nothing new or odd about that.

Limiting that space is up to the Legislator and I repeat that whoever is unhappy can ask their representatives to put forward their ideas.

But alas, you have to look at both sides of the coin. Little people get screwed over many times not because of someone else but because they are incompetent.

People in America have something many people around the world , especially in poor countries, don't have: a choice.

It's up to the individual not to work at Walmart by getting educated, starting their own venture from nothing or just plainly working in alternative jobs.

And to wrap up, I m here because I enjoy the disucssion, if everyoine agreed with every single one of my posts then there wouldn't be much discussion going on.

in a few words: it's good to have variety, so let's keep insults to a minimum.

Barc0de: I hope you understand, that your , let us call it. "The little devils advocate play". Makes me just a bit irritated, and of course I see both sides. But then again, I would rather defend the little man vs. The firm. If you know what I mean.

    Yes, I understand and that's why I m tolerant.

Being good with words and persuasive can often irritate people, I have come to realize.

Well, being good with words can irritate, when I too know that a flatus is what other people calls a fart. Sometimes I am just tired of that dancing around the problem, instead of putting the fingers in it. And getting them dirty, and use the suitable words that fits the situation instead. Even I can use words which people could call arty farty.

Never said that, unless I mistyped. Well, after rereading what I typed, I can see where it can be read as me saying those guys are the Devil. I didn't mean that, I meant that people think Wal-Mart and Microsoft are the Devil because they have big bucks and crush the competition.

Sucks for the little guy, I guess, and might even lead to crappier products and a monopoly, but thats why I usually shop online, because I know Wal-Mart won't have some rare Atlus game I want or whatever.

I think this is my last post in this thread, as I think the whole thing is a little bit to grey for me to be 100% on one side or the other. I just go in there to get what I want if they have it. I don't see why its being labeled "Evil" when the area is too grey to call it even "Good".

Hell, even the difference between Good and evil itself is grey as grey gets.

I tend to be divided on Wal-Mart. On one hand the capitalist in me thinks that they got to where they are by being better than the rest and should be left alone.
The other side of me sees some of the long term damage they have caused and the potential for more and thinks that maybe they should be split into two or three separate corporations.

Everyone likes a Scapegoat. How about the money Walmart pays into local charities? Sure, it's to offset the perceived damage done to the local small store economies, but the fact remains that they give to local schools etc. They create jobs in struggling areas. They provide a cheap alternative to minimum wage families. It's easy to point the finger when your wallet is fat or mommy and daddy fill the fridge each week and your only concern is which videogame to buy next. But reality for a lot of other people is quite different.

As an employee of WalMart (at least until Dec. 20th) I can tell you that management gives the shaft to associates all the time. You'd see how rediculous the place has become with all these policies they have (the few they've added in the two years I've worked there are just plain jokes) that shaft the ones that do the actual work while management gets their and your dues. Ironically, this goes further up the WalMart totem pole all the way to Bentonville (sp?), Arkansas. Bias in management's favor is also a huge issue that will never be taken care of ("Good Ol' Boys network").

Worst of all, WalMart isn't the only guilty party.

On another note, it may be time to lock this topic as it appears to be a bit flamish in here.
