In my ongoing trawl through literally hundreds of gaming magazines from the 90s, I came across the following two articles:

Does anyone know if "Sega Adventure" was simply the working title for a released game, or is this another cancellation victim?

As always, any help in solving this issue would be very much appreciated...

That's Air's Adventure. You can tell from the guy in blue.

I actually suspected it might be Air's Adventure, since a later issue of the same magazine features a preview of this game, mentioning that it had previously been covered under a different name (though it neglects to reveal what this was). However, it didn't take much to figure out this one after you confirmed it - thanks, Yakumo!

Anyway, here's another two more possibly cancelled games that I've found just now:

Trying to find anything on these has left me pulling hair out so far! Anyone care to help?

Neither of those were released on the saturn. They may have been released on the PSX though.

    Yeah, it's Air's Adventure.
Same scan can be found on U64.

That's exactly what happened to me when I read those magazines to find unreleased games :)

I didn't take any of those two so probably I found they were
    1) released on Saturn or
    2) released on another platform.

Will give a try later when I have time.

I've done some more extensive searching and still nothing on either Galactic Crusade or Hard Corps being released for the PlayStation or PC - they certainly don't remind me of anything available on the Saturn, that's for sure! As I said before, though, it's possible these may have made it to retail under different names. On the other hand, they just as well could have been cancelled...

Neither were released on the Saturn under any name, I can tell you that for sure.

On those days many games were described as multiplatform (PC/PS1/SAT) but I doubt many of them had really something for Saturn.

Will search for the other one later.

This robot character from Hard Corps looks very much like the one lying on the ground in XS: Shield up - Fight back (both from SCi)

CD Console (the mag from which are taken these scans) was famous for showing games we couldn't see in any other french magazine. A kind of goldmine for unreleased games (I remember many unreleased Neo-Geo games were shown in its pages).

Contra: Hard Corps (aka Probotector) had already been released the year before by Konami, so I'm surprised they'd be able to use the name. Perhaps the name was changed before it was cancelled?

What was the date of the magazines?

If anyone would know of them, Segafreak_NL would - but I don't see them on his website.

That XS scan is by me (see watermark) . I'd have to look up Hard Corps, the other game doesn't ring any bells (developer?).

I don't recall this one being released, either...

I originally thought that as well, but since this scan comes from a magazine dated April 1994 it's far too early to be Sky Target. Also, the HUD and use of (what appears to be) distance fogging doesn't fit in with any known Sega flight title from this period, including G-LOC. Of course, it may just be an early conceptual or prototype image from a released game, though I've yet to find out which - if any at all. Maybe that control icon on the left might yet prove our most valuable clue?

That is not Sky Target, that's for sure. Not sure what it vould be. Doesn't look like anything Saturn related. All I can think of is the Sega Arcade game that was based upon the flight sim game.

Mystery solved, indeed! So that "Afterburner IV" screenshot was actually from the original arcade version of Air Combat? I really should have known that, considering I have the first game in this series for the PlayStation. Then again, I didn't know until just now that the PS games aren't conversions of the arcade machines, so it's hardly surprising I wasn't able to identify this (formerly) mysterious title based on its HUD alone - even this appears to have been changed, it seems. I didn't think there was a fourth Afterburner until Climax, which came years later...

I still think it's what became Sky target. The arcade game came out in 1995.
