I've always thought it would be neat to own an animation cel (i.e the sheets of plastic that the frames of an animation were drawn on), you literally own a part of the show after all! But they always seemed to be expensive, $30+ on eBay. But then I found they're cheap and abundant on Yahoo! Auctions Japan, so I thought I'd dip my toe in and see just how much cheap they are. Snagged two for $11 each! I've just finished framing my first one, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out (I know nothing about framing things): It's kind of a shame that all my favorite anime are digitally animated, the best you can get for those are the line sketches that were scanned into the computer, which is kinda pointless since they don't look like the final product. I'd also love to own some cels from my favorite western animations, but those seem to go for around the $300 mark
How I wish I could navigate Yahoo Japan better... sounds like a great idea though. I've got some picture frames at home with generic families in them... Hahaha! :congratulatory: Maybe something more like this should be what I am aiming for!
LOL Those generic photos are great. Bought a frame for my grandmother, and she's like "who's that girl?" lol
Ranma ½ is pretty much my favorite from the era of cel animation, so I figure most of my collection will be Ranma-related. I'd like a Serial Experiments Lain one, though they seem to be rare and expensive. I would also love some Gunsmith Cats cels, but I haven't seen any yet, would be sweet to get an action shot of Rally driving her GT 500! Ooooh! Perfect Blue! I saw a Perfect Blue cel, was very tempted to buy it Figures you'd own one from the rape scene
Ive got a cel from the SMB Super Show, and one from the Real Ghostbusters. Bought my wife one from the Little Mermaid TV show.
I got a few of Hunter x Hunter the first series not the new 2011 reboot. I'd have to dig it out and scan them in. Many has matching background and a few has 2 or 3 cels that completes the scene.
I used to have couple of plawesler sanshiro cells as well as Kiki's dlivery service cells that I got years ago. Was going to frame but never got around and now scattered among my junk(?) stuff, sadly...
I think I got one framed that was supplied with the LE PAL DVD release of Mononoke Hime. Can't be arsed actually. (PM if interested though)
I had a load from Maison Ikkoku but had to sell them when times were hard. They sold for good money due to the style of them. I owned the full set including background plate of Kyoko slapping Godai outside the train station in the rain. A very remembered scene from midway through the series. I think that went for almost 40'000 yen. I really wish I still had it.
