This might sound daft, but since I became interested in development systems I have accumulated a pile of PC software relating to the various systems I own. I was wondering whether at any point in the past there was a console that was developed using Apple Mac? (Excluding perhaps Pippin) Having never seen anything, apart from audio / midi applications relating to consoles I am curious.
The Atari Lynx had a decent computer as a dev system in the form of a Amiga. Be interesting (maybe) to list computers that have been used as dev systems over the years. Like the Apple IIGS for the Super Nintendo...
Now you come to mention it, I remember something about the first sightings of 360 units under development being a pair of G5 units. Whatever happened to those I wonder?
Most of them were probably shipped back to MS (thought I do know of at least one that wasn't shipped back)
Something you want to share with us Babu? Come on, where is it....hand it over.... we'll not tell Uncle Bill lol ;-)
hehe. to be honest I don't know the status of it any longer as the studios has been shutdown.. most likely all the HW was either send back to the main office or it was send back to MS. Havn't heard any from the people of the company since it happend.
Shame, but predictable. I can think of several people who'd have gleefully handed over their months wage packet for one of those units. The idea of listing the computers used as development units for various systems is a good one, especially if linked to the spec / OS required. Might come in handy!
I remember someone on xbox-scene was selling one back in 05,unfortunately I never did get a response from the seller.
I know of at least Saturn and PSX development being done on an Apple machine, often just the sound/graphics side of things, but also the entire chain if needed (at least for SS, they even had a Sun dev package at some point)
There's an SNES emulator floating around on the internet that is (supposedly) an official one used by Nintendo. It's for Mac OS 8 or 9, I think.
I wouldn't be suprised if quite a lot of the A/V workstations were Apples (or Ataris and Amigas) back in the day, noting how flagging PCs were in the graphics market until recently (as in, past 10 years).
Thanks for all the information. Confirms some of my findings regarding visual & audio, but was surprised to see that Apples might have been used in an entire production. Incidentally, the first emulator I ever came across was a Connectix PS1 emu disc for the now ancient (stuck in my loft) Strawberry iMac Bit jittery, but surprising given its age.
