As the title says, I'm wondering about the state of any Guitar Hero or Rock Band prototype builds, for research purposes of course (I'm most interested in the HMX-developed engine): * Any Guitar Hero I builds (especially the earlier versions with the original fret ordering and the vastly different HUD, I'd also like to see the Dope Nose chart HMX made during development) * Any Guitar Hero II builds (there is of course the early 4-song demo on OPM110 and the "10-song" demo seen in stores that really contains almost 30 songs, I have both of these, I'm looking for other builds that may exist) * Any Guitar Hero: 80s builds (especially the review copy seen on YouTube with the I Want Candy chart and the placeholder chart for Because, It's Midnite that spells out "HI BRAKELS") * Any early Rock Band 1 builds (I remember seeing a build of the 360 version that still had GH-style gems, and then there's also the slightly different looking build seen on the box shots with lyrics from Rockaway Beach) * Any Rock Band 2 builds prior to the adding of the Awesome Detection cheat (in the hopes of seeing what was there before, if anything, as Awesome Detection does fuck all as proven by studying the game scripts) Past these points, there isn't really anything that I would see interesting as the engine has already been established and any differences would be quite minor. Also, I could give a shit less about the Neversoft engine, except maybe to see some differences in an early build of GH3 (since it was NS's first foray into GH games).
Didn't a relatively late build of Rock Band 1 have Welcome to the Jungle in it? I think gametrailers.com or something has videos of it. Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd3E8zgqJM4 Apparently the build is way earlier than I remember, because it still has the GH-style gems for the star power/overdrive/whatever notes, and they're not even using RB guitars.
Well if you didn't notice a later build of Rock Band unplugged leaked for the PSP. Don't know how close to complete it was but it did leak a month before release.
Bumping this thread even though its not entirely related (Still harmonix so). Got earlier copies of Frequency and Amplitude from BuyAtari earlier in the week, and just got around to trying Frequency (Amplitude = Not working in emulator, and Im too lazy to hook up a PS2 right now). Its an early version with a Framerate counter, and sync counter. Also has the build number on the one title screen. Now I dont have a final version of the game currently, but I highly doubt that the final allows you to pause whats going on during the game, and allow you to advance it frame by frame (though the notes have a tendency to disappear), along with specifically hitting notes on that frame (confusing I know). I also doubt there an auto-win button on the final, but Ive only gotten that to happen once in this. Does the final have a Disk Change option in the options menu, allowing for expansions of some sort? Edit: Build Number Screen (has FPS too) Edit Numero Dos: Turns out I do own the retail. Anyway, no build number on the final, no frame count of course. No expansion disk change option in the final. No pausing the action in the final, and def. no auto win. So overall, quite the different build. Game saves are compatible between the two, sort of. Edit Again: Did a quick feature on my site. http://superiorversion.com/?p=352
Not directly related to what you ask for in the op, but a couple of times while playing Rock Band (both 1-2), I've had a USB stick connected to my 360 (use it for movies when I'm too lazy to move something into media sharing), resulting in some odd results: If you go to the in-game song list (not the music shop) and remove the USB stick, the game boots you back to the title screen, telling you that a storage device has been removed. "The status of a storage device has changed, causing the song selection list to be regenerated. Your game session has restarted." Something that I find kinda oddly interesting... as the game (just like all other 360 games) does not use the stick for storage of DLC or anything... so why does it care? Remnants of the game's testing phase? Some sort of canned development "song import" feature? Or does the game actually check USB storage devices for compatible DLC too?
Yep, just goes to show you that BuyAtari's games can have some awesome stuff, for the low, low prices that they are being offered for, its the other side of the coin when stuff goes untested
I forgot I even owned the original so it worked out Still shows everyone else that there are gems to be had on the cheap
Gah, makes me want to boot up Frequency right now. I think I actually prefer Frequency and Amplitude to the GH/RB series.
