Are there hardcore philips cd-i collectors here on assemblergames ? My brother just posted his collection video on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2kGL5pOLf8 I was suprised to hear that there are quite a few Dutch exclusive cd-i games.
Philips is a Dutch company. I'm somewhat more surprised that there is no CD-i icon available here on the forums? I mean come on; NGC Q, Super Cassette Vision and Playdia icons but no Cd-i?
I still have a fairly sizable collection, although all my NFR games (and my system for that matter) are long gone.
I still have my old cdi200 system with dvc cart installed. I have to fix that one since ups decided to do so much damage to the thing. I recently got a cdi450 system but it is missing the dvc and wont play most of the games for it. I will check out the video james
I have a couple CD-i games, but no system. I found them at a thrift store - I was pretty surprised to see them. They had several of them, but I only bought 2.
I got a 220 with a DVC and a small number of games (and movies) for it, so not a hardcore collector, but I found a couple of games I enjoyed. For example, few people seem to have heard of the console exclusive "Monty Pyhton: Invasion from Skyron" - so even if you aren't interested in the crappy Mario and Zelda titles there's still reasons to grab the system. At some point, I need to get me a controller that doesn't totally suck ass though.
As the only home system to have Burn Cycle, Voyeur, and Escape from Cybercity, I couldn't resist building a small CD-i collection. Definitely deserves its place in history.
I have a few systems and a fair few games, but no amazing collection. Borman used to have loads of promos/betas IIRC. Voyeur is good, although flawed. You only have so long until you have to recharge the battery? Well, why not leave it plugged into the mains?! And it's completely random as to when and whether you get any decent clues. I've been literally clueless until the last second, when I witnessed the murder! The change (albeit on a limited number of video clips) was pretty cool, though.
I'm interested in the CD-I and would love to buy one whenever I earmark enough money for it. That and the 3DO are both systems I'd love to have in my collection. The poor CD-I got a really bad reputation, which is a shame.
It was a try hard system, many of it was a failure. Controllers being another. I was about to get a CD-I rather recently, but I'd barely touch it.
I have a Goldstar GDI 1200 Portable CD-i. Unfortunately never bought any games, only ever played a few of the more rare games on it in burned form. What most people do not understand about the Cd-i is that it wasn't created to be a video game console but an interactive cd medium which would bring video discs too more people then just some american countries also offered capabilities of the early cd-rom software. Game companies for some reason started making games for it as that was possible with the technology.
Some of you guys might enjoy this ! There is almost no information about Dutch exclusive cdi games on the internet. This video shows 4 people having fun with the philips cd-i ! They are playing the Rare Dutch exclusive game called sport freaks. This game is based on a Dutch TV show. ( the video has some English subtitles) Sport quiz questions. (Very Hard) Sport questions are being asked after 3 slots rol. the first slot shows the sport. The second one shows the year and the last one the country. Based on these 3 slots you will get a corresponding question.
