So yeah, I'm the kinda player who wants to find creative ways to finish off a boss in games, just because I simply think it looks awesome. <airhead talking>

One day, I played Kingdom Hearts II again from the beginning up till that point where you fought the Twilight Thorn. I got it's HP down to 1, but I didn't land a finishing move on it. It played that Reaction Command sequence for the final time, but after when Roxas throws that Keyblade at the boss and falls back to the ground, the boss lands on his head and is defeated, to my surprise. The head slam counted as a Finisher, while Roxas is still lying on the floor! I laughed so hard at that.

If it will make any more sense, I have it all on video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSw53drbvIA

So to reiterate the question: Do any of you recall any interesting boss fight experiences that you would like to share? (Examples: Won the boss with 1HP with no items, miraculous victory in the end, seemingly good battle turned upside down, sudden stupid death by accident, etc.)

(Yeah, it 12:30AM here, gotta get to bed. zzzz)

The first time I played through Super Metroid I beat Ridley with literally 1 energy left. My first time beating Megaman X I beat Sigma with one bar of health left. Other than that, the first time i got to the El Gigante in RE4 had me damn near shitting myself, until the cutscene ended and i realized how easy he is:icon_bigg

I was playing legend of zelda II, and at the last boss the game glitched.
I reset the nes to find my save corrupted. Never touched it since then.

I can probably list a TON of these, but I guess for my most recent, I could name Fire Emblem.

I made it to the last part of that secret optional Dungeon in the Sacred Stones (without losing 1 person, HARD BTW) and I had to fight the Dragons.

I killed all the Dragons at the end but one, but I made a stupid Mistake and let one of the female heroes get cornered!

This was one in a million, but the Dragons attacks missed her, Two or three times, even, and all of her attacks and counterattacks were criticals. And I think she had just enough HP so that one attack would kill her, and give me a game over because she was a hero unit.

Needless to say I was sweating bullets, because if she died, I'd have to do the WHOLE secret dungeon over again, and it was like several hours long. And you can't save in it.

Jet Set Radio Future - teaching English in NE China, it was a joy to come home and play this game whenever I had a little time off work - I still remember it so fondly:

But - on the very last boss - I ended up in a glitch where I couldn't move at all and was fuming. It was a terrible programming error, clearly they hadn't play-tested it through properly... Anyway, (IIRC) you have to go through some shit before you end up fighting the boss. Pretty sure it was going through all that again that put me off.

Never went back to it, for one reason or another.

My wife got quite immersed in FFX around the same time - only snag was that she was playing the 1st release which had a bug in it so u couldn't level up properly (hence the 'international FFX') - that one was annoying. I think a friend of mine (many years later) did eventually beat the boss encounter at some point.

For some reason the 360 emulated JSRF renders the boost blur effect as a water splash effect...lol. Gotta get me another Xbox tank sometime, I'd like to finally finish one of those fuckers.

Not Jet Set Radio (or De La Jet Set Radio) this was in Jet Set Radio Future. I still remember it vividly, on the very last boss there are some platforms you can jump up on - or maybe you aren't mean to jump on them? - the boss hits me and threw me up on one of them and I was stuck, moments aways from completion!

To be fair, it wasn't something obvious so I cannot really say it wasn't tested properly at the Sega offices, It was a very unusual thing to happen... Kind of reminds me of the legendary 'balcony' myth in Double Dragon (arcade) - where you could get thrown up on the balcony on the last boss screen. (For anyone who ever remembered this 'rumour' - it turns out it IS actually possible, someone at the double dragon dojo (website) posted a video of it.

    I digress...

I love the Jet Set Radio games - silly glitch or not, I just wish they'd make another one!!

Is it me or are final bosses not that hard anymore.

Sure, the battle leading the the final boss may be crazy hard, but the boss itself is cake.

Take Killzone 2. The firefight to get to the boss was torture, I died countless times, and when I finally get to the final boss he goes down on the first try.

Same with Valkyria Chronicles. I would have taken him down the first try, but I had wasted too many turn figuring out how to hurt him, so I restarted and S ranked him in 3 turns.

At least Ninga Gaiden 2 still have a crazy hard boss.

I had a fight with my boss today. Told him if I could work extra hours for next week, so he mistook it as if I wanted to work TODAY, usually my day off. He calls me in today saying where the fuck i was. So I hurry there and bitched it out.

One of the last games I played with a very memorable, hard as nails boss was Gears of War....then Gears of War 2 had one of the LAMEST bosses ever.

I'm with ya. I've played through JSRF many times too (just started it again a couple of weeks ago) and haven't encountered this. Sounds very random. Sucks that your save got corrupted. I personally would have no problem going through the game again though. :)

    It's the genre(s) you're playing.
