Any particular reason Nintendo is being slow with N64 and SNES Virtual Console games?

You can get 2GB SD cards for like 20 bucks if you keep your eyes open. What's the big deal? Just compress the audio well. For PCE CD games ofcourse.

the VC games run only if copied to the internal memory of the Wii. SD is just for backup purposes. so what you re suggesting , at the moment, is not possible.

Are you sure? Still if that is the case there's no problem. Just put stuff you want to play back on to the Wii. I'm sure there will be a hack or something to allow you to run stuff from the card since you can already read pictures and MP3 from it.

Hack, Maybe but atm I question if nintendo will ever let you run stuff off an SD card untill it becomes an issue of space over other Wii channels (like if other channels come out like web, weather, news).

They have to see it as too much of a security issue ATM. (Barcode is correct, Channels will only load from flash, not SD).

hmmmm I am seeing a great future for WII homebrew, just by reading this :) and WII hardware hacks :)

  8. Yeah, for sure. You can already use all the Gamecube homebrew on the Wii (which includes Gamecube emulators for the NES, SNES, Genesis and TurboGrafx, by the way) without any sort of hardware mod, but those only have access to the Gamecube part of the Wii hardware. Once proper Wii exploits are found that can support wifi and the Wii controller and stuff, it'll open up some pretty exiciting possibilities.

By the way, in addition to staggering the Virtual Console releases to keep interest up, I expect that Nintendo are also thinking about the fact that simply unleashing a flood of classic games at once--especially the bigger name titles and double-especially the N64 titles--would end up hurting sales for Wii games. Third parties would probably be even more concerned about that and Nintendo has to keep them happy.

Personally, I think the emulation is great and not too expensive at all for most of the games, but what would really make me excited would be some original content like Xbox Live has (whether online multuplayer or not really). I haven't heard any suggestion of that sort of thing on the Wii, though, unfortunately.

Now, add Konami's Axelay and toss in the full Quintet line-up and I'm pretty certain the Wii is soon gonna be my nr.1 for retro classics.
