interesting eurogamer article: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-ps3slim-hardware-test-article?page=2 in this page there's power consumptions comparisons
Well I left it on for most of the day downloading most of my PSN games and after about 6 hours there was some audible noise coming from it, but nothing you would really hear over the sound from the TV.
i hear the BR is much more reliable but is slower (hence slower game loads and One very disconcerting thing is that since fw3.0 a hell of a lot of people are seeing certain games (mainly Uncharted) crash/freeze/etc. anyways, if you've got the space, the original 20/60 gig full BC unit is still the daddy.
According to the eurogamer article, it's the other way around. They say the BR in the "Slim" is faster, the HDD has faster acess rate, and even loading / installing is faster as well. This is what makes this generation a pain. Every single firmware update (in any of the current consoles) is a shot in the dark.
hmmm - seems to be changing day on day depending on who is covering it ! Brother in law is possibly gettign one, i can run mine side by side and see.
check that article, eurogamer made a side by side comparison and there's video of it too... prior of the ps3 slim release there have been an insane amount of bad advertising around, spread by people that never tried one even!
3.0 has been messing with my controllers. A Sixaxis and a DS3 to be precise. They will randomly disconnect and turn off during gameplay.
I was thinking about getting a Slim to play Demon's Souls (its like a Japanese Oblivion clone a little bit, with some Monster Hunter elements thrown in) and MGS4. But I may wait for a newer model to come out. Then again, I really want to try those games out, as well as getting God of War 3 as soon as it comes out.
bought one and updated to 3.00. no problems. the unit is incredibly silent a cool, after 4 hours of playing wipeout HD the ps3 was barely warn, nowhere close to hot. the plastic is actually really nice, and it fits perfectly next to any dvd recorder or hifi equipment. lastly the video quality is great too. i'm satisfied with my buy.
Yep, when you see it in the flesh (so to speak) it looks a lot better than the video/photo's make out. At the end of the day though, it could look like a diseased placenta for all I care as long as it does what I want it to.
firmware 3.0 (I have a fat one) won't allow me to listen to music while browsing the internet on my PS3. I used to do that all the time when surfing from the living-room. Security concerns perhaps?
one feature i'd really like, and it bugs me ps3 can't do this, is to listen to music while playing on any game, with WipEout HD with very limited soundtrack, it would be nice if i could play my own music while playing, but for some reason they don't let you do this.. (and internet browsing while playing would be nice) funny that i can do this on my 360, but not PS3 :X
I actually was watching a good quality video on youtube going over the slim and i must say it does look alot better than what i'd initially thought from some of the photo's and videos i'd see previously. Not had a chance to see one in the flesh just yet though so untill i do i can't really say if i like it or not.
I don't know, just a little worried about purchasing new hardware. I might get one of those $300 PS3 slims / lites / whatever along with MGS4 and some other games when I get my next check.
