So last night I finally watched Saw III. I've been a fan of the series since I watched the first one a couple years ago. I've been wanting to see the 3rd one for a while, and so last night I rented the Unrated version. It was pretty good, and as always I didn't figure out what was really going on until the end. Overall though, I still feel the first movie was the best.

So, what are your opinions on the Saw series?

I thought that the "Usual Suspects" style ending of three was very well done. I am afraid of how they are going to bring Tobin Bell (Jigsaw) back for part IV though. I also thought part one was good, but two felt like a quickly turned around cash-in.

i only like the first one...original director and HIS original ideas for the film. you really feel it when you watch part II or III that another director did it

I heard the 4th one is going to tie up loose ends, and explain how several different characters were "related" in some way or another, and that it will switch between past and present, similar to III.

I'm speculating that there will be no more "new games" and that the present is going to be an investigation of Jigsaw's "lair" and crimes, and while the investigation is going on flashbacks will show how certain people met, how they died, etc etc.

I love the series. I saw the Japanese release (Uncensored version) a few weeks back on DVD. The ending was very well done but I'd love to know what happens to the "game" guy. For me the 1st movie was quite disturbing since it was the first of the series or first of it's kind you could say. The 2nd was ok but the 3rd was a great improvement.

In my local video store there are about 5 or 6 DVDs that look like total Saw rip-offs. Even the covers look just like the SAW ones!! I'll have to get them out one by one too see how shit they are.

Have you ever seen Se7en? If you really like Saw, then you should definitely check out Se7en (if you haven't already seen it). To me, they are somewhat similar though different enough to make them unique and totally awesome in their own ways.

I liked the first one as it had a unexpected ending. But when I watched the second I feelt that I knew what to expect from the movie.. and the third.. kind of ok, but it wasn't really a saw movie didn't really feel like the victims had the chance to make it as they had in the first.
Out of the three I think the first one is the best.

Se7en is great, but I just don't think David Fincher can be topped. So is Saw really that gory? I like suspense, but not gore. When you think about it, Se7en is not at all. In fact, you only see one person get killed in the whole movie. All you ever see are dead people after the fact. Still scared the fuck out of me.

It seems to me you weren't really paying attention to the story, as that is explained toward the end of the movie. ;-)

The original Saw isn't too terribly gory, especially compared to the second two movies in the series. It is more gory than Se7en, but I wouldn't put it up against something like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake and The Beginning), which was pretty much people getting sawed in half and cut up right before your eyes. The original Saw wasn't all about gore though, the story is what got me hooked. The movies just got progressively more gory as they went on.

I like the movies :) Watched them all on Blu-ray over a period of 2 or 3 weeks, was a good time, especially with Surround Sound on my projector

Pretty good. I think they were all a bit different from each other which helps a lot. The first one was about the mystery of the guy behind it, the second one had a cop story angle to it and one long "game," the third one kind of took it a step beyond and gave you additional info about the first two.

    **SPOILER AHEAD**

Overall I was disappointed in the 3rd one, tho. Not quite as tight as the first two and the ending seemed pretty much impossible to set up (ie one character needs to shoot another at the exact right monent all based on emotion). I also made a mistake and thought the scene towards the beginning with the nurse and her lover was actually a scene with her and the male lead character....so I assumed they were married the whole time...heh. Kinda spoiled the suprise ending.
