Anyone else got a Game collector rival?

I'm not mad at collector rivals, what I'm really mad is at the damn scalpers who looks for the games not for collect but to resell. I got a few rivals but they are collectors and we are even friends sometimes we run for good thing but with two of them I got a deal, if I find something good but is not what I'm looking for I hold it or buy it, I told them if they find something that I might want they get it and in the end we trade it. They mostly look for nintendo stuff, I look for Sega, I grab for nintendo what I like and play nothing more, they grab anything for nintendo play it or not, thats my winning hand.

 

Got a couple of ones on ebay for very specific items, sometimes I win the auctions, sometimes they do.
It's part of the fun anyway

 

Yeah I know a few who collect properly not reselling, I often buy stuff that I'm not really too bothered about but only usually to trade with someone for something of similar value, the way I see it is its pretty much like if I get a spare copy of pokemon and swap it for let's just say mario kart or something we both know neither of us paid ebay prices so its all good and pretty much the equivalent of us both finding something we wanted at the market, I'm not against other collectors but people buying stuff just to resell, plus getting in before anyone else can is pretty shi**y, I know I would be made up if it was me (as a collector) but if it was the case I would atleast not start acting a smug t*t about it

 

That gives me the absolute shits too when people do that. I mean, yeah sure if there are multiple copies or if people are asked for assistance if they specialize in particular series or formats so there's a higher chance of getting a better quality copy from those sorts of collectors too. But I also get doubles and sell some on request if the condition is good or else I give them away in contests on my site.

 

I live in a city with a SMALL gaming community and commute to a city with a medium size gaming community. The town I live in has a niche retro store and the big city I commute to has 2. And 20 mins past that there is a small city with 3 of those kind of stores and a huge gaming community. So it depends on what city I'm in for the day, but if one doesn't have something I'm looking for than another one will...and thus removing the fear of a "rival". I have had stuff bought out from underneath me, but I got over it right quick and still had the game within the hour from elsewhere.

 

There's very few retro gaming shops by me, most of my games come from markets or eBay, there is one retro shop in town but they don't really get any cool bits it's just street fighter sonic etc. They do have one or 2 cool bits but they have pretty steep prices on them so only really go in there every now and then, and then there's the retro game man in the market who gets everything from the market to resell who this topic was about, so basically if I'm after something specific . Have to go to eBay or wait for weeks to see if it will turn up in the market and hope the guy who minesweeps every thing missed it on his rounds
