Just wondering if this is a common thing but I seem to have picked up a bit of a rival that's now doing the rounds on the markets near me, what's damn annoying though is he has a stall at the market selling retro games (so he's not really a collector in that sense) thing is i used to get a few bits from him and his prices arnt all that bad (a bit cheaper than ebay) but I have a a few bargains that where considerably cheaper than picking them up from ebay I.e a gamecube to gba controller thing that four swords uses for a pound where as they sell on ebay for like 10 - 15 for the official ones, I stupidly got talking to him showing him bits and pieces I had picked up for cheap which appears to have set him off beating me to pretty much everything as he is allowed in an hour before the public to set up and he just goes around and get everything to just sell on his stall, if it weren't for the fact he gets in before anyone else and the fact that he is then selling those same things he got for a couple of pound for like £28 on his stall It wouldn't be so bad, not to mention his smug attitude it's just really disheartening and it makes me feel like showing off what bargains I've picked up but I realise that's probably what caused this in the first place and maybe I should just opt for put downs XD as now he has started trying going to other local markets he doesn't even do just picking bits up so word of warning to collectors NEVER share your finds with people or tell people where you picked stuff up unless you feel like sharing all your future finds with that person
That isn't a collector, it's a scalper. But yeah theirs one mythical guy who goes to all the same spots as me. Never met him, never posted my "finds" but he goes into the city center more often than me.
Yeah it's just annoying when he is like ooooh I got this for a fiver and its something I've been looking out for for ages, in someways its a positive and get me out earlier looking on market days but in the same sense I used to be pretty much guaranteed a bargain or 2 at that market without having to be up at the crack of dawn XD its one of them things that I feel should be reportable to the market organisers but tbh I don't think they would give a crap, I have started approaching stall holders more and asking them to keep any stuff back they get and ill make them a fair offer or at least tell them if anything is particularly valuable, using that guy as an example I may have to pay a bit more than the amazing bargains I used to get but atleast my lil trips aren't a complete waste of time as some have been recently
I did at one point untill a friend of mine acquired all my N64 games lol. He bought from bargin bins, I bought from eBay, we both had a nice collection each, in the end I sold my collection to him since I had a lot of games he wanted, it's a pretty big collection now.
I used to go to this one really big car boot sale near me to search for MegaDrive games. This one time I was at a stall and it looked like they had some uncommon games just sitting there randomly assorted in a box. I bent down to rummage round in it only to be shouted at by a guy, turns out it was his purchases and he'd just put the box down. Every sunday from that point on we'd be racing each other around the sale to get as many MD titles as we could. Was fun for a bit but he had the last laugh when I quit collecting about a month later.
There is one guy in regards to collecting Clock Tower stuff - though he doesn't include DEMENTO/Haunting Ground in his own collection, for the main Clock Tower collection he's beating me with having a couple of things I don't: Clock Tower Ghost Head posters, GameStop promotional VHS with Ghost Head on it, Clock Tower ~ The First Fear ~ poster and promotional VHS, Clock Tower 3 dummy marketing boxes, Clock Tower 3 promotional trailer DVD and magazines. I don't think he owns one of the Clock Tower Ghost Head promotional mousepads compared to one of the other ones. But I have a different Clock Tower Ghost Head promotional VHS, other Capcom promotional DVDs, Clock Tower 3 E3 t-shirt, other trial builds (PurePure Discs), multiple mint copies of the games and other magazine DVDs with other trailers and other stuff on them whereas he mainly has more magazines than I do. But I'm also the one that has had access to and compared different builds of the first game - a store trial build, a late prototype build as well as having a few photos and the like sent to me by a couple of concept artists on the different games so I have had access to more information as well. When DEMENTO/Haunting Ground is factored in, I have the larger collection excluding the number of third-party magazines with articles in them. There is another collector I know, but I believe I've already gotten past what they had. There's is another collector that I haven't been able to put a name to as of yet that is the one that occasionally beats me when I'm hunting new items but there hasn't been anything new for the majority of the year outside of fanworks/doujinshi which I seem to be beating my French friend/rival in that department at the moment. Another collector I know seems to have also dropped off the radar, but there's been confusion around as to whether or not it's another person's collection and the like but there was a huge shitstorm of drama around that in the past so I'm just not going to touch it outside of those two and the other collector who ran Don't Cry Jennifer have all seemingly vanished from the CT community as far as I am aware so it's really just mainly down to my French friend/rival and the third person that is currently unknown to me. Though we're usually on friendly terms and have also affiliated our sites together. The Clock Tower Wikia also tends to reference either of our sites (mainly mine and I tend to find everything I put onto my site either put on there or see them on the different Clock Tower fan Tumblrs either way without any credit or links 99% of the time). If he quits collecting Clock Tower, then I'll happily buy whatever stuff is different between our collections' from him as he's always been straight to the point when chatting with him but I'm sure that it goes both ways!
I have 3 of them, though I have adjusted my schedule to avoid them, one of them did manage to get a few Pokemon carts that I missed.
If you think offline rivals are disheartening, get a few online ones specifically for your gaming niche, ones with way more disposable cash and watch them slowly but surely discover all your hidden sources. My collection has been on hold for about 7 years thanks to the competition.
Yeah we'll after some thinking I've kinda come to the conclusion, that A, it pisses the hell out of me that he gets pretty much every bargain, butttt, in some ways it's better than having some unknown person going around getting stuff, atleast he does actually give me the chance to buy them, a bit cheaper than ebay too, but on the other hand the really annoying thing is, he gets into the market before normal people get to have a look around, which is the main thing that pisses me off, it's caused me to not bother buying stuff off him lately XD, maybe if he isn't getting quick sales on the stuff he gets he might tone it down to getting a few bits and not the entire resources of retro games from there
I'd love to meet my rival. None of the places we hit up recognize him as owning a store in town so he isn't just a scalper, I bet his collection is neeto.
I'd be curious if there's anyone else who's specifically collecting Wipeout Pure/Pulse/PulsePS2 variants specifically for data mining, but I have a doubt about it Although my specific desired discs- I think there's been one that's eluded me and has landed in the hands of a PSP beta collector who's indiscriminately collecting them
my game collector rival is anyone who bids on the stuff i want off ebay lol other than that not really.
There are many many many rivals when it comes to prototypes/betas collecting but the rivalry ends very quickly though. Those who are loaded with cash always have the last word even if most of the time they have no fucking idea what they just bought...
My Rival is some guy who runs a used game shop in town. He ripped me off by selling me a broken PS2 and he wouldn't let me return it because "I run a small shop and I don't have to offer refunds because I am not a big name store". That is complete bullshit, he definitely could have refunded me. So I'm never going there again. I always beat him at his game though, I have it timed so I get there 30 minutes before him and scoop up all the good games before he gets there just to piss him off.
Only one who is far more wealthy than I, but he is in an opposite time zone so it works out. I also wrote a bot to track his ebay activity.
This Brain damaged kid named Zav. But that's less about him, and more about the fact his mom fails at life. Kid has this huge wall of 8 bit and 16 bit games his mom gave him but he has no idea what any of them are and thus... I MUST CRUSH HIM. So what if he's a 10 year old kid. He has no idea what he has.
