Definitely. I have much more fun when I'm playing with a cohesive unit, rather than putting out simple 4/4 stuff when playing with one of my friends (who enjoys what I consider shitty indie music - not that I don't like indie music, I just don't like his). I love a lot of different types of music; as a matter of fact I'm playing Tiesto right now, when I was listening to Death in my car not more than thirty minutes ago.

One of the problems is that many of the people in my area are rather stuck-up. The aformentioned indie kid I play with from time to time (who used to be my best friend, now a manipulative fuckhole who I try to stay away from) plays his simple bass rythms whereas I want to try something that involves a bit more emotion. He seems to be playing for the sake of playing; I want to smash the shit out of my drums and scream at the top of my lungs. There is also the "scene" around here... a bunch (and by that I mean 98%) of people around here go with the emo thing, and I absolutely despise anyone that associates themselves with a predetermined style, be that musical or clothing, which by the way should have absolutely nothing to do with the type of music you are playing. Maybe I'm being hypocritical by saying a lot of these people are stuck up when I'm bashing their tastes, but I believe music should be self expression, not a fashion statement.

That turned into a bit of a rant, but I feel better :)

I think were on the same page. That's how people are here too. I guess I'm guilty with the image thing, as I have all the charectaristics of a metal person, but still, whatever.

I like a lot of different music and stuff, but I think it'd be more fun playing metal and death stuff.

When I did have stuff together, we tried to do some old In Flames, Katatonia, Deicide, Mayhem, etc, and everyone dropped out because they wanted to do new metal/emo/etc. stuff. I ended up keeping the bass guy and me going, just messing around and having fun, but this was when I was just getting a grasp on guitar, and he had just got a bass. It was still fun though. I dunno, I would still love to just mess around musically, even if I'm not the best, but it's so hard to find like minded people when there's so many that want to look the look but not live the look, or something along those lines.

You were just getting a grasp on guitar and doing old In Flames stuff? Tell me your secrets :p

I bought a guitar (Fender Squier), but it just sits there since I have my computer right here and get distracted very easily. I'm also no good with tuning, and the one song I've tried to learn is well beyond my abilities (Opeth's "Patterns in the Ivy").

As far as going for a certain image, it is mainly the emo thing I have a problem with. Of course, there is some guy at the local coffee shop (where most of the shows around here take place) who makes it a point to wear a short mohawk, full makeup, and chains every time he steps outside of his house. I guess a more accurate way to put it would be dressing up for the sake of attention or "fitting in."

Somehow I've been tagged as a metal kid by everyone I work with, but I think that has more to do with my demeanor (which still makes no sense, as I'm very calm). They sure as hell couldn't have gotten it from my clothing - as of now I'm wearing blue jeans, Converses, and a striped collared shirt. Who knows...

Simple, you do it slower and not as good, lol. We did some of Artifacts of the black rain, if I remember right. It's wierd, some of that stuff I can do, some of it I can't.

It sucks you can't just jam with people on the net, lol! I'd be up for it.

The Jester Race is one of the best albums I've ever heard by any band, ever.

And yeah, I'd be down for playing some stuff. Depending where you are in Virginia you may not be far away from where I'm going in a few months (Boone, NC - it's closer to the border of Virginia than where I am now).

You need to get on AIM man, we're clogging up the thread. :)

Well, this isn't exactly a neighbor problem, but i'll say it anyways because i just need to let it out. I'm an admin at my university's forum, and today like 5+ members noticed that they had less posts than yesterday (for some like 300+ post, for others like 10). And now they are blaming me because i have 2000+ posts and according to them yesterday i had 1600, and that's bullshit because i reached the 2000 post mark like 1 month ago, and everyone is believin in them. Should i ban them for making such accusations?

I got locked up for the night for threatening behaviour because of my neighbours. They were the loudest people on Earth and used to come home screaming and shouting at the top of their voices at 3 & 4 am in the morning. I'm not a party pooper or nothing and to be honest they never bothered me, but i have a 2 year old daughter and they used to wake her up and scare her half to death. The first time it happened i just ignored it,everyone gets drunk now and again. When it happened the next weekend i went round and had a polite word with them, explaining the waking my daughter situation, they promised it wouldn't happen again. Same again next weekend, the missus phoned the police, they never turned up. Next weekend i finally lose my rag, charge outside in my boxer shorts and trainers, and beat the crap out of him. I spent a night in the cells and got an £80 fine, but i haven't heard a sound from them since, well worth it.

On a lighter note, i used to live next to a 80 odd year old lady, who used to wake me up at about 9.00am most weekends singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow".

We had a bitchy old lady who lived next to us for a long time, and then she moved.

Never had a serious neighbor problem like some of you do/did, but since I moved to my new house I had to deal with these two brothers who have one of those lame DJ party business (for sweet 16 parties and all that crap). Their music is sub-par, and also their gear so they never play it loud enough to bother me.

One thing I did once is playing Rez with all my speakers connected to the Tv and full volume: the music from Area 2 was so loud the windows were shaking!

The funny part is that right after I stopped playing the game those two knuckle heads came to my house all shaking and amazed: they tought I was making the music:lol::nod:

College enviroment can be trickly when dealing with groups, specially if some of those you're talking about belong to a minority: you could get tagged as a racist/xenophobe.

If not you may lose you admin rank, and that sucks big time. Now if those idiots belong to a frat they may just burn your car or something like that.

Emos are everywhere now, is the new trend, like the gangsta look among rich white suburban kids...
