Ahh for christ sake... its 8:30 am now in good ol' montreal and my f-ing neighbor has already started his musical rituals.

Apprantly the guy above me is some sort of Music Student. The problem is from like 8 am to midnight, he pounds and pounds and pounds. He seems to play everything drums, piano, guaitr.

But, each instrument is pretty annoying when it wakes you up at 8:30, though I have to say the worst is the drumming.

Its not like his music is bad... but, because he's upstairs, all I get is pure muffled banging.
Not to mention that the noise is everyday and randomly occurs at inappropriate times.

When asked to stop his response was "that he couldn't because his studies required it..."

Pissed off I talked to my landlord, but she's abit of a real space cadet hippie. As in whenever you try and talk to her she will switch to some random topic and never stop blabbing about it. And when it comes to your concern she says she'll take care of it... But, of course the next time you ask her if she did she'll go on another tangent about why she didn't take care of it and how "busy" she has been.

Woe is me right.... tis the life of a student in a apartment building full of university students.

Anyone else got neighbor problems...Please take out your anger in this topic.

Fuck...I seriously am jealous.. And excuse my language but

I can't take it... the guy has been playing C major scale on the piano forward and backwards repeatedly for like 20 minutes now!!!

Plus, I didn't get any sleep last night so this really is like painful torture.

My neighbour died abroad 8 mths ago and suffice to say it's been pretty quiet from that side of the wall. From time to time I am convinced I can hear someone in the property through the wall, but hey that's just me being silly!

However, I have previously posted a thread on the recording studio that's over the road from us. That seems to be a pretty similar tale, other than the musicians are all such lazy buggers that 8:30am is more than likely as foreign to them as the dark side of the moon!

Midnight drumming is a pain in the ass and I have adopted a tolerant frustration. I'm just thankful I generally spend all my time at the other side of the house.

What you could try is at 8:00am one Saturday when you know he is in, is couple the largest damned speakers up to the largest damned amp you can lay your hands on and start playing some hard core techno. To make matters worse, go out, lock the door and nip off down to a local coffee shop, grab a latte and a newspaper and just relax in peace. When you get back say you are terribly sorry but the CAT must have knocked the stereo on! How terrible, will not happen again officer...

I would be tempted to shove those drum sticks up his arse if he played drums at 8:30am anywhere near me

There's an old guy on both sides of my apartment, and they bang on my wall at night because I'm "too loud". The loudest thing I do at night is play games on low volume; not my fault our walls are paper thing.

I think Im one of the annoying neigbors here at school lol. There is no low volume on my 5.1 surround sound, or so I say anyway :p Actually, no ones complained about out 3am gaming sessions (be it madden, or Call of Duty with guns blazing).

I'm on the other side of the fence. I had a neighbor call the cops on me twice for playing my drums. I have them in a shed behind my house, and I always play with the doors closed. Somehow she can hear them in her house across the street even when she's inside. She didn't even bother coming over to talk to me about it, and she started spewing bullshit when I went to talk to her ("THERE IS A 50 FOOT NOISE ORDINANCE AND EVERYONE ELSE COMPLAINED AND BLAH BLAH BLAH I WANT SOME TWINKIES BECAUSE I AM A CORPULANT BITCH"). "All the other neighbors complained" was especially garbage, because my next door neighbor said he "enjoyed" listening to my playing, and one of the guys across the street came over and played with us once.

If I was playing at 8-12 at night, I can understand how it would be a problem. However, I don't think I should have police over at my house because I wanted to play at 2PM on a Saturday afternoon. I'm considering setting up my bass drum and snare in her front yard and doing blast beats. Fuck you, lady.

Do it! I get the same crap for guitar, but I don't play after 8pm without headphones.

I had a problem with one of my neighbor's daughter back in the summer. The house across from mine has a girl majoring in music studies. She came home for about a month back in July. All is quiet for the first two weeks. That lovely quiet came to an abrupt end one night. The bitch starts blaring some horrendous music. The duration of the music varied. But one thing was constant; she left her fucking windows open. I was ready to have a conniption by week's end. That night, I opened my window, put my speakers on the window sill, and started playing a combination of Symphony X, Dragonforce, Juno Reactor, and Infected Mushroom. Needless to say, she stopped blaring her music there after. I admit my reaction was pretty immature, but those spur of the moment things just tend to happen.

my building has about 2 dogs per floor (4 floor) and also some cats here and there.
All it takes is one bark and all of them start barking, and this usually starts at 7AM/8AM... its like living in a farm :(

on the other hand I practice bass guitar from 10PM~2AM so...

    balance is achieved ^^

I'm not very good, and on top of that I can't find anyone to play the type of music I want to (vaguely metal, but I want to mix it up). I kind of want to do vocals, but I don't know how convincing a skinny guy like myself doing death grunts would be.

I'm sure you know, but from the gut, diaphragm breathing, leave the throat alone and try both inhaling growls and exhaling ones ;)

I've gotta write lyrics to a song we havn't even got written for my music class tomorrow. Gah!

This is my exact problem. I had something put together once, but then everyone got bored since they don't like the same stuff. I'm not the best guitar or singer, but I can manage, and I'm guessing it's easier to get better actually doing stuff.
