i still use my ISP's default DNS but I've been meaning to change it for a while but I don't trust google and dont know other good DNS's
Make sure you join the HTML5 trial: http://www.youtube.com/html5 And why are some people not using an ad blocker?
I have noticed that for years now, Youtube allocates bandwidth to specific videos or channels. I imagine it is related to which ones bring in the most revenue. You can obviously tell that when you find videos that do this, it isn't the entire site. Go find one of those videos on the featured list on the front page, I bet those will work just fine. The thing I really hate tho, is when you have an unskippable 30 second ad to watch a 20 second video clip.
Ad blocker extensions for YouTube fix that. Never seen an ad on the Tube again since. Have yet to find a video that says "You need to disable your ad blocking extension to view this video."
been having issues recently but not sure if it's with youtube itself or with flash. sometimes a video will not load / play, sometimes it will start then stop. other times it will play and then the video will freeze but audio will keep going. annoying stuff like that, i'll try what kuze said and maybe report back. although im thinking some of the issues i have are flash related.
Yes. I use AdBlock Plus for Firefox and there hasn't been a single advertisement on YouTube since. I honestly don't care if those poooooor YouTubers don't make money because I don't waste 30 seconds of my life watching a dull advertisement. They should get a real life job if they wanna make money, like everybody else. I once stated this opinion on some gaming review show (one of those boring "I show you what I bought and discuss my boring mainstream games for 25 minutes" type of crap videos) and earned a lot of swearwords. The videos suck and have like zero production costs, they can go fuck themselves! XD If I did that, I'd NEVER expect to earn a cent from it. It's a bonus, not a necessary donation to keep the content alive.
i dunno decent cameras aint free and some have decent production quality more advanced greenscreen and stuff but yeah i mostly agree i wouldnt do it for money but if i had the choice a little extra doesn't hurt n if people wanna block them they can.
It's a hobby of theirs. They didn't buy the camera for charity, they bought it because they enjoy to make videos that people watch - nobody should expect to earn money from a free video site for cat videos. If someone told me that their job was "YouTuber" and complains about not earning enough money because of those evil people who use adblockers, I'd probably just laugh and move on.
If people using ad blockers means people like PewDiePie can't make money off their dumbass videos, then that's just another plus side to using them.
I've been noticing this a lot too... I think they have a new way of changing the resolution- instead of just switching the playback, it keeps playing in the current resolution for a few seconds and eventually switches to a higher one (usually). I think they are just trying to avoid the 'experience' of seeing the video skip and re-load when you change it (although I prefer that so I _know_ it changed). I've actually long since given up on trying to stream videos from YouTube though. I hate the stupid 'click to subscribe' and other crap people make display over their videos. I'm glad YouTube finally made a button to turn that crap off, but it's always on by default. I simply download the video now and play it off my computer. That way I know exactly what resolution I'm getting, I know it will play perfectly, and won't be covered with comments/ads/icons/etc... And if it's something I really like, I can keep it (which is especially nice if it gets deleted for some reason... ) I have to honest- I didn't even know YouTube _had_ ads... What do they do, force-play a video before playing the video you want to see? I've seen TV studio sites (like CBS or something) do that, but I've never seen that on YouTube... Another reason to have AdBlock installed (I'm still amazed when I talk to someone that actually knows things about computers and isn't using an ad blocker...).
About the add blockers, sure some adds can be annoying but if you don't want to give the people who make the videos money then why are you watching them? Videos take time and effort to make. What's wrong with the people who make them getting a little something for their work? I'm not talking about some idiot out in the street filming some crap or animal doing something silly, I'm talking about shows such as my own or Ashens. I love watching Ashens YouTube channel. Sure, some times it's dull but 80% of the time I really enjoy what he puts out. I have no issue with adds before his video (most adds in Japan can be skipped after 5 seconds anyway plus we get cool game adds or Subaru concept car adds)
the ads we get here at least the non skip-able ones are normally for stupid annoying or irrelevant stuff, and we with crappy connections gotta wait for it to buffer the ad even before its gets to the actual content we want to see which can take well in excess of a 30 second ad, which can be extremely frustrating. i've got no problem with them making money from their videos it doesn't come out of my pocket, just can be an annoying waste of my time
Fair enough comment I guess. It was just ave's comment that seemed a bit off. As if he had some big problem with people making money on videos he didn't enjoy watching.
Youtube didnt have too much ads until recently, the amount of ads in youtube seems to be growing very fast. I am very aware of the existence of Ad block, a friend of mine has been telling me to install it for months, but I didnt want to use it as I didnt really feel a need for it until recently. I do not mind moderate ads and I already have a spam window blocker. But I just went and installed Ad block now, just because of youtube.
did seem a bit hostile , what annoys me too is the ads that randomly pop up neat the bottom of the video, covering what im watching lol, although they all have a close button makes it feel like watching an illegal stream or something on a dodgy site
I don't have a problem with advertisement in general, but YouTube's ads are making it hard to enjoy. I do not want to watch 30 seconds of car ads when I'm not even planning to buy one, it just doesn't make sense - and YouTube is a free platform, it's not as if the people who create content have a right to ask for money. I know it takes time and effort, but honestly - they already get recognition if they have a lot of views (which is why they make videos, I suppose). If they were planning to make money all along, maybe they should publish it on DVD or something. I also used to create video game reviews prior to the YouTube days in 2005 and I never imagined that there'd be a way to make money with them, despite the many hours I put in. It's a hobby and that's the way it should be treated if you ask me! I couldn't care less about people making money with them, but I don't see how I deserve to be attacked for blocking ads. YouTube never had ads in the first place and is a free platform. It's not as if I'm pirating games or anything
You Tube cost an awful lot to run in terms of storage and bandwidth. Yeah, Google are a massive company but even they will need help supporting YouTube which is why the adds are needed. The YouTubers (is that what they are called?) only get a very low % of the add money so it's not as if they make big bucks out of it. It can take me over 3 months to get 10'000 yen from the ads. That money I use to run my site for a few months. Besides, TV is also a free platform for watching stuff (unless you're in the UK with the BBC TV license or Japan with NHK although you can tell NHK to piss off most of the time.) and they have ads (BBC & NHK don't) to support the stations. Australian TV has that many adds during a movie it's impossible to even watch the movie. Ads every bloody 5 minutes or so. The bottom line is, if you don't like the adds, do something while they're on. That's what I do. I may read a post here or do something else while the add is playing.
More like 100% of the time. Then again, since he's a doctor I doubt he cares about making money off his videos.
