Let me say that I for one am just really excited for this game. Now I'm not usually a fan of RPGs, but the promise of a game like this. One with such a fasinating story has really drawed me in. I myself having studied musical classical in various courses really feel a strong connection to the type of story this game is trying to portray. I doubt I should be drawing comparisions, but really there just isn't enough entertaining stories about these great figures. Hopefully I can put this game up there with the great movie Amadeus after I have played it. I certainly look forward to it. Is the demo on Live any good? I've yet to play it. And btw is there a soundtrack of the games music out yet?
I really can't wait for it, I am playing Blue Dragon now, and it's good, but Eternal Sonata just looks so much better. *edit* If anyone in America is pre-ordering and getting a faceplate, I would be willing to buy it for a not-unreasonable price.
I' excited about it. Loving Blue Dragon right now, and I'm sure Eternal Sonata will rock as hell. Tachi, I work at a gamestore, so I can try to throw down a reserve for you at the store (just PM me your name and stuff so I'm not making stuff up) so you can get one. I've got one pre-ordered personally.
The game probably isn't region free so there's little point me buying a US copy as it won't work on my PAL 360. And $59.99 is a bit much for a free faceplate! Thanks for the offer though!
You don't have to buy it. Just put $5 for a pre-order. Then cancel the pre-order after the game comes out.
Oh I'm pumped alright. :love2: This game (and Blue Dragon KOR release) was the main reason to put an Infectus in my PAL 360. Loved the demo on live too.
I thought you only got the faceplate when you collected the game? if thats not the case and you can sort it for me, let me know.
I was really excited, but wasn't too impressed by the demo, however I think sometime I'll be playing this and Blue Dragon.
Hmmm... I'll let you know. I'll run by the store later tonight and ask about it (though we haven't recieved the face plates yet so...).
To tell the truth, I am not sure if I should buy Sonic Rush Adventure or this. Money is tight right now and I can really only afford to trade something in for it.
Well while the Sonic DS game seem fun lately, they haven't been incredibly breathtaking experiences. Even Rush for DS, while it was good, it wasn't breathtaking. The story is never incredible and while yes the gameplay is great. I just don't think its worth getting it, if you've got sonic rush. Wait it out and get this game when it hits a reasonable used price in a couple months. Also, remeber they churned the sequel out to Sonic Rush pretty fast, so be wary of it! Sometimes for sega this seems to point to a effort that could have been much better. Eternal Sonata on the other hand got a 35/40 from Famitsu plus the idea for the story is one of the most original I've seen in awhile. Its philosophical and almost reminds me of NiGHTS in its theme. What should be amazing is that the story here should be a whole lot better the NiGHTS. But, seriously Eternal Sonata should be epic and it definitely feel like the team creating it, really took their precious time to craft it. Sonic may be fun, but meh... from a personal standpoint beating Sonic Rush Adventure to me wouldn't be as fufilling as beating this game.
True, although there is plus and minuses for each game type: -Sonic is a game that I can pick up and play without worrying too much about plot or being worried I will never complete it. -It is far cheaper, I can trade in MP3 and have enough for a Halo 3 preorder and pick up Sonic Rush Adventure, while ES will take 2-3 games -Eternal Sonata is a lengthy RPG, which I have a bad habit of not finishing unless it is really good (FFXII took me 4 months/100+ hours with many of the sidequests not done). Plus, I am still working on Brave Story, which is short for a RPG. Now, for stuff against it: -Sonic is short, and most likely won't sell for much. -Sega has a bad track record for recent sonic games. However, they sort of follow a weird rule of thumb: 2D Sonics being OK, while 3D sucking major balls.
I don't think Eternal Sonata is going to hit the 100s in hours. I think it'll be like Blue Dragon and sit around 60-70 assuming you do everything there is to do in the game (I'm at the very end of Blue Dragon and only have 2 more "extra" dungeons to go, and I'm 45 hours in).
Picked this up today. Pretty little game. WAAAAAAAY too much talking and ethical discussion. The first hour I spent playing (and I use the term "playing" loosely, I think I actually "played" it for about 10-20 minutes, if THAT!) I felt like my eyes were going to start bleeding with all the talking... and talking... and talking... and talking... :banghead: 'Tis a good game, don't get me wrong. But for the time being I'm going to say I like Blue Dragon waaaay more. Battle system in ES just kinda drags IMO, and after the awesome "battle initiation" system in Blue Dragon its hard to take that step back.
I personally can't wait... one of the reasons I bought a 360... I bought Blue Dragon when it came out but haven't had a chance to even put it in the machine yet - been playing oblivion and gears too much... I was actually quite gutted to know ES is coming to PS3 - I'm no fanboy but it just feels less... pure now... like knowing your virgin girlfriend also had sex with that guy you really hate... but before you were together... so there's nothing you can do about it... that kinda thing... anyone get what I mean?
I actually took ES back the day after I got it (thankfully I work at gamestore and was able to get my money back). Here's why: 1. The plot is boring. Painfully. Dialogue between characters is also painfully boring. In Blue Dragon everything was quick and to the point. If there was a cut scene then something awesome was probably happening. This is not so in Eternal Sonata. If there's a "scene" in ES... then the boring characters are probably being boring with each other for 10 minutes or so, droning on and on about how evil the government is for taxing their stuff and so and so forth. You're just sitting there like, "Please stop talking." Seriously, I've wanted to bust out my DS during every dialogue scene in the game so far. Its painful. 2. Every so often the game will just stop and play a SLIDE SHOW of pictures of REAL PLACES all while displaying information about Chopin's ACTUAL LIFE. Its like you get Music History class with this game! Its also really... really... boring. 3. Combat gets really old really fast. Especially when you're fighting a group of 3 rats, each of which has more HP than YOUR ENTIRE PARTY COMBINED!!!!! I am not kidding, the shit I'm fighting now has like, 15,000HP per enemy. And these are just the enemies you encounter in dungeons! The bosses take even LONGER! And the fighting isn't THAT different from typical turn-based stuff, they just added walking around, which just adds more time. So EVERY character gets 5 seconds to do whatever. Enemy, friend, whatever. 5 seconds. This means at the minimum every encounter lasts about 20-25 seconds (intro music, time between turns, etc.). This is if you kill EVERY enemy before THEY can move. Typically, you go about 3 rounds (you go, they go, you go) which is around a MINUTE of combat. A MINUTE. Every single fight in a dungeon lasting a MINUTE. And whenever you leave a room? Oh, best believe everything in said room has respawned. So just imagine all the fighting that occurs! It gets so old. 4. The world is really boring. Like, Blue Dragon had really cool locations. Jibral, the sheep tribes, etc. The only thing I HATED was the Devee village. In Eternal Sonata? EVERY PLACE IS BORING!!! There's just nothing interesting about any locale! Its all just... more stupid looking people in their stupid little cities. And every town is TINY!!! Jibral CASTLE is bigger than any town I've seen in the game so far. 5. Fixed camera. Thats right, the camera is fixed. Have fun figuring out where the enemies are when your turn starts. Have fun trying to figure out where all the "hidden paths" are. Ugh. 6. The game is insanely linear. No, really. It takes place over a straight line. Super Mario Brothers is probably less linear than this since you have warp zones. 7. Characters look stupid. Heroes and villians alike. Chopin looks cool, but thats it. Everyone else? Retarded.
The game cannot be that be that bad can it? I mean It got 35/40 from famistu. Personally I'm an avid musical history fan and the premise of the game has me very interested. I'm hoping my lack of RPG knowledge will make me appreciate this much more then had I been an avid RPG gamer. As many game review sites keep hammering in the point that RPG gamers will not be impressed by the gameplay. But, I'm really not a RPGer, in fact my extent of the genre holds to the Earthbound series and Pokemon Red and Blue, of which once apon a time I was a unbelievable fan of. What is everybody else's take? Because I just might not buy it now
