Holy sh*t. I woke up this morning and couldn't stand or even sit up from bed. My lower back is in so much pain. My leg feels like it's going numb (from my groin all the way down). I think I have a herniated disc. Anyone here have that same problem before? I bought a heating pad but it's so uncomfortable to sit, stand, or lay down.
If you have numbness you need to seek a doctor asap before any permanent injury is done. Numbness is pressure on the nerves and can lead to permanent disability unless treated. Heat will hurt, you need ice and Ibuprofen asap. Numbness is serious. You should need to get an mri asap. If this happened at work you need to file a report with your supervisor today or you risk losing any help from them. If it happened at work the report will make them send you to a doctor at their expense.
Also, your condition might be initially reversible, and most peripheral/central nervous system damage becomes permanent after some time, so the sooner you get diagnosed and treated the better.
Assembler, it didn't happen at work. It's been like this off and on for about a month, but today it's really bad...bad enough that I left work. I just got a heating pad this afternoon and it's really not doing much. I took 2 alleves and it's still painful to sit, stand, lay or move. I was hoping someone wouldn't say get an MRI or go to a doctor. My health insurance sucks big time. Why does this stuff happen on Fridays? Will getting a professional massage help? I don't mean the rub and tug kind. I suppose if I'm still in pain in another hour I'll call the dr.
Ingis (the male half of I and I) has a bad back (hernia) he's had an operation two years ago (22) and then it did oke afterwards only now, the pain has returned... as already have been said, please go see a doctor... if it is a hernia, it can be treated quite easily in most cases but you really need to check it before the numbness in your legs become permanent... so, final advice; go see a doctor... having more money isn't worth losing the ability to walk (<= extreme ^^)
I get pretty bad sciatica pain sometimes, but nothing this serious (plus, I think I finally found the right body position for mine to get it to calm down). Get that shit checked out!
Not like anyone cares, but I saw the chiropractor today. She thinks I may have sprained something serious (pelvis?). I will now be getting x-rays tomorrow. The little B**** pressed on my sore area with all her weight and I was about to get up and punch her. She's lucky I was in too much pain to do it. Having a sore back can really get a person in a foul mood.
Probably b/c it's already inflamed. You need to ice it in such a case, or get a 'cooling' pad thing. They're called Shippu here, or Salompas (sp?) from Singapore or some other Asian country. Can't remember. I have an awful back. You're already in the shitter, so no telling how far it's gone, but preventative things to do: 1: Stretch every day when you wake up... always stretch before excercise. 2: Good posture 3: An ergonomically correct desk -- most people don't have this. You can look into getting a TENS device. They are awesome, but pricey. They are more for chronic pain - not actually healing anything. As Assembler said, numbness is actually really bad, and you should go to a doctor. I've never had that. I've had about all the other pains though. Threw mine out so bad one time I had to go to acupuncture 3 times a week for a month -- took cabs everywhere. Spent a week on the floor at work. Totally sucked.
I have a really bad back, but that's because I lift 20-30kg boxes for 8 hours 5 days a week. It's trashed, and all the doctors say is you need to toughen your back muscles. Fuck the NHS...
As lame as it sounds, the really bad one -- putting a dumbbell back on the rack. It was about 70 pounds or so... and the rack about 3 inches off the ground. I even knew I fucked it, even though it didn't hurt at the time. Next morning = game over. Ever since that incident, any time I'm in the gym I do these reverse-crunch things as my warm-up, w/o fail. They're back extensions basically, but you only go down a few degrees. I do 3 sets of 50. Definitely helps.
doctor told me that when i hurt my back doing pretty much the same thing. and its completely and utterly................... the best advice you'll get. most hurt backs are muscle based it seems. I hurt it bad enough all i could do was lay on a couch and pop skeletal muscle relaxers for 2 months. anything else was a world of pain*the need for nicotine won out many times but usually an Advil followed* and for 2 and a half years after it was still bugging me every day. then i just started doing some stretches everyday a couple months ago and it doesn't bug me half as often now. moving onto some actual strength related back things soon and hopefully i'll finally go from hunchback back to standing up straight again after almost 3 years:033:
