Was wondering if there are members who review games for their hobby or profession? Starting a reviewsite in a few months. Just bought my first review kit (360). Sill searching for an affordable ps3 testkit.

I think I don't understand your remark? It is a hobby. I'm not a publishing house or anything.

Lol, what I meant is: "is anyone in it?". As I like to persue it. Just curious.

Whats the point in a Review kit and a PS3 test kit if your not going to get any access to betas seeing as your doing this just a hobby.

No company is going to send you anything just because you have some webspace and a review kit.

Well, my hope is that my website is unique enough that they will send it. And they probably will. Was just wondering if there are people here who already are reviewing for a profession.

You wont have any decent ammount of hits unless you have something very interesting on the site and no company is going to send out any betas to someone with no track record. You should really work things out before you waste a few thousand dolars on items you dont know much about.

Thank you for your concern, but this is well thought out. Have already contact with some national magazines who are helping me.

If you're planning on becoming a journalist, you need to stop any personal postings on forums today.

Journalists cannot be seen interacting on a fan level.

    Just IMHO.

My profession is something else and wouldn't allow for that. Will target a niche market. As stated before it is just a hobby. And I think most journalists are fans in the first place. But I guess you are right as to showing their opinion about the software they review.

Eh that depends, of course hiding who you are helps Id guess. It really depends on where you are posting, here not being one of the ones you should be, seeing all the beta fans and such :p

Haven't thought about that. Aren't we all big video game fans in the first place?

Of course, but this site isn't exactly on the gaming industry's Christmas card list. And one of the keys to journalism is being able to control that fandom anyway, so if you cant back off of forums, then journalism isn't quite as easy as you think :p

Yeah, you gave me some food to think about. But in the first place I'm a fan. My site will not be as others, it will be niche targeted from a fan's perspective. Anyhow, thank you for all the input. Will take some notes to heart.

Well then, let me give you some advice. To even talk to many of the big companies, you need at least 100k hits per month, or else you won't even get past their interns when it comes to getting review copies of games, let alone previews. Some will sign you up on their press media list, but that generally just gives assets and such.

I would recommend you associate yourself with a newspaper with a good circulation.

LMAO! Ahh, thanks for the laugh. A niche site targeted from a fan's perspective? Oh, and there aren't ANY sites by games fans for games fans out there already!

    What country are you in?

Well, I wasn't going to be so assy about it :icon_bigg, but those are pretty much my sentiments.

TC, you seem like a nice enough fellow, but I think you need a reality check.

No matter how unique or entertaining your website is, the bottom line is that you're just a guy. Some guy. Some guy from what country? (God forbid you're in eastern Europe) And bam. You set up a website and companies start sending you product that they've poured millions into? To some guy? I mean...what happens when you accidentally leak it. They sue? So, they take some guy for all he's worth?

Well, I wish you luck...as I'm all for companies giving out free betas...but well...

Companies rarely give out betas to magazines. They NEVER give out betas to anyone without a huge circulation. It sounds like you don't have a company even. I'm sorry to say you are very unlikely to get anywhere.
