I am a BIG racing fan. I like realistic type games though, naturally I think Forza2 is the best racing game ever made ^^.

However I have been playing it to death and now im looking for another racing game to try out and enjoy. I know PGR is more arcade style but it has several things I wish were in Forza 2.

    1) Weather

    2) Cockpit Views of Cars

My big thing is upgrades though. I like to tune (or at least upgrade) my favorite cars, im not sure if you can do this in PGR4 or not.

So in short, how do you guys like it in comparison to Forza 2?

Just slightly off topic, but if you have even a decent PC, you owe it to yourself to try RFactor. It is simply one of the best racing engines around, and the mods for the game make it what it is (Thats the whole point of the "game" really, its whole premise is the user created mods)

PGR 4 is an amazing game although you can't really compare it to forza 2. the graphics are great in PGR 4 especially the coclpit views and the added wheather looks fantastic but it also affects the way you race because if you play with the different you have to watch out as you may need to adjust your driving as the weather afects the way your car handles. i know It is arcadey but its more fun staright away than forza 2 and the inclusion of bikes makes the game better than what it would have been without bikes.

I love both PGR 4 and forza 2 so for me when i want to have simple fun without worrying too much i play PGR 4 but when i'm in the mood to sit down and get a good few hours of serious gaming i play forza

***RFactor is a good game although i have only played the trial and on a slightly below par PC but it was really good and the modding aspect makes this game great.

Have to agree with the above two comments.

Both PGR4 and Forza 2 are worth owning.

PGR4 is to my liking, but I've never played Forza 2. There are no upgrades or anything like that. I remember playing Gran Turismo a few years ago and each race was mostly just a way to get money to upgrade my car. So in the end my goal was to win tires or shocks or whatever, not really to be the best driver.

PGR4 has a lot of variety, even in the campaign mode. You have a "race day" where you can choose the city you want to race in. Each city has a few races. Some are street races, some are kudos challenges, some are hot laps, cone challenges, one-on-one, speed challenges, eliminator, etc. When you add in the different types of cars to choose from it feels like you have a lot of choices even tho you're in a campaign.

The weather is brilliant, but overused. The conditions will chage during the race so the car will handle differently. If you do a 10-minute race on Nuburing the snow might be falling harder at the end than the beginning so you have to change your driving style within the same race. Plus, the driving lines become harder to see. The snow starts covering the sides so you're not 100% sure where the road ends and the shoulder begins. If you're in the city the harder rain will start to form puddles on the ground that get bigger with each lap.

The arcade mode basically unlocks nearly all cars and tracks (you can "buy" more tracks and cars with kudos you win). If you have XBL it will save your times so you can compare it to your buddies who have done the same races. I can see how badly I beat oldengineer after every race. Every. Single. Race.

I just downloaded a free upgrade that is supposed to let you do free roam driving but I haven't checked it out yet. Have you, oldengineer? Either way the game has 3 different approaches that are all very good. But that's just the way I like to race, so in the end it might not but for everyone.

The cockpit view rocks, especially when you can watch others racers by entering their cockpit. You can do that with XBL. Seeing the best racers race the F50 through New York from the perspective of the driver is a great way to learn.

The game is only below average if you take the game, and try none of the mods. Some of them (many of them) are higher quality then the commercial games of the same type (Nascar, Sprint Cars, F1, and just about any other type that you can think of)

rfactor is pretty cool, lots of legal and somewhat illegal mods...........plus it has Mini's....

come to think of it, PGR4 has Mini's too...so it must be good...

if you want a free to play, low requirements sim with loads of mods (f1, stock car, street, boat etc) then give Nascar Heat Mod launcher a shot. Download it and a mod (and track) and give it a shot. Looks kinda dated by today's standards, but it's probably your best bang for your buck sim-wise

It's quite fun...definitely improves some of the rough spots from PGR3.
That said, I've played the game to death shortly after Christmas. I do however enjoy an occassional spin around the Nurburgring course whenever I'm in the mood to play for a few minutes.
