We had a theme park here in Shimnonoseki that had been closed down for years and left to rot. The cool thing was that everything was still there including a few arcade cabs. I took many photos with my first digital camera only to have a virus ruin the lot about 5 years back!

Sadly that theme park is no more. They are no building a massive hospital where it once was.

    Nice, seen that one before.

I went to Denbigh Mental Asylum in North Wales, UK last week - at night. Although it has been gutted and vandalised its a great place to look around, is huge - apparently the biggest mental hospital in europe at one point. Quite scary going round there at night with all the little cells and rooms down the long corridors. Our lamp also went out in the middle of the place, had to get out with one little headlight! Didn't manage to see the electro-shock therapy room though which was a little disappointing.

Also the TV series 'most haunted' did a feature there....pity we didn't see/hear/feel anything like that. Guess ghosts must be scared of me

That first pic gives you an idea of the size of it, its all the same complex. There is also another mansion sized building thats seperate to the main complex but was still used for the mental asylum.

I like how you can find certain usable items laying undisturbed in some of these photos (like rows of helmets, cleaning supplies, etc.) Abandoned places in the United States tend to be ransacked of everything of value pretty quick.

in swiss, where i'm from, such places don't even really exist. they will be quickly cleaned up, before even one will notice its existence.

but we have a whole village which once got flodded to obtain an artificial lake.

Yeah, abandoned buildings are really cool. The only places I've ever gone around, though, were Fort Casey and Fort Ebby in Washington State... they've got a great atmosphere.

I'd really like to visit Gunkanjima one day. To think this island was once the most densely populated place in the world...

    Abandonded building are soo cool.

Never been round any abandoned buildings that i can remember although may have when i was younger but for different reasons than i would do now.

I do love abandoned Hospitals especially those with a creepy feel to them and would certainly love to go round any that may still be here just to get as many pic and video as possibly and also for the feel of walking round an abandoned hospital.

Washington has a few cool abandoned coastal batteries like Fort Casey.

This topic reminded me of all of the abandoned industrial buildings in Tacoma. I think I'll bring my camera and explore later this week...

That fifth set of pictures in Tatsujin's link with the cable car looks a lot like a location in RE4. Anyone else see that? Or am I imagining things?

And yeah, abandoned buildings are really cool.

When cycling along roads in the middle of nowhere (or at least the countryside part of Tochigi) I did see a abandoned resturant and a small shopping area, I will take my camera and go and take pictures next week.

I have noticed a large increase in the number of closed down pachinko parlors too (I can see Yakumo doing cartwheels already....)

There are many of those in Spain, but you usually can't go inside because they are alredy occuped by okupas (anarchists who refuse to live how the system says to do), homeless, gypsies, yonkies, etc...

Always been facsinated by abandoned building but now i'm getting into wanting to go visiting places.

Been wanting to go visit Bangour Village hospital which isn't that far by car from where i live although i'd have to go with someone and not on my own, also i'd have to have an idea of where exactly to check out as its quite a big place with many buildings.

those morrons should live somewhere in deep mountains or the desert, but certainly not in facilities made by THE SYSTEM!

    epic fail!

    This is a great photo:

Tobu Dobutsu Koen Zoo just closed, or is closing soon. Perhaps they'll leave all the animals there? That would make an interesting day trip.... or not.
