Now that's some kick ass exploring that could land you in the monkey house. Cool pictures though.

I'm in Japan until mid june, so I'd be happy to, I could probably cycle around 150km in a day if need be.

These abandoned places would be good for use in films especially anything thats supossed to be creepy/spooky. There is a film called "the jacket" which had some of it shot in the place i want to visit but i've never seen the film.

There is also budget film about an abandonded place in america where i believe everyone gets killed but its old and i've forgotten the name but it was shot in a real abandonded building which from what i've seen of the film actually make its a bit better.

chernobyl.. ahem.. Best place on earth.

Some of thoughs places remind me of Battle Royale.. (Man i love that idea so much)

Yeah, i too went into an old massive mental hospital. with 4 floors. Loads of rooms with swinging doors. Tramps had lived in there for the past year or so, and it was very much like Resident evil. Though one room had a **** load of porn in.. quite disturbing don't you think. Anyhow, it was well scary when we were leaving, becuase the place was boreded up, you needed a torch to look around the ground floor. And we heard a swing door slam just as were about to leave. WE WERE OUT IN A FLASH I CAN TELL YOU!

Found quite a few abandoned buildings on my cycling trips, although most are behind gates, so I am a little reluctant to go into them.

This one however being an abandoned supermarket was easy to get into as it's not locked at all and there are no gates to keep you out. It's however heavily vandalised. :-(

As you can see it was raining, which made lots of sounds in the building which made me more aware of things, although I could see cars pass by the road next it to a lot.

I do love the American flag... make's you wonder if it had anything to do with it failing. This Supermarket is in Nishihou, Ibaraki on route 23 (click for map location) and is basically in the middle of nothing, there is nothing really nearby to compliment the shop. Outagou station is nearby but Chikusei City is only a few km away which has a much better shopping area.

The carpark of this supermarket seemed to be used by lorry drivers to take breaks (as there was one there when I took photos).

I do like this structure with the clock in still very good condition (if stopped...). Lots of weeds and a sad looking shop.
All the windows have been smashed.
The remains of a childs play area or more like a jungle.
Inside the shop, the floor is covered in dust. Fridges vandalised but I still like the sign...
The computers that ran the till systems had gone, although I did find a few remains of PCs.
Hmm Tempura Udon only 350 Yen! Not very American though...
In between the play area and the supermarket (you can see the parked lorry on the left...)
Remains of the food processing area, the machine on the back wall was a computerised shrink wrap unit which still had the operating manual attached... The roof leaked hence the pool of water, this made some strange noises which spooked me a little.

The take away food bit says "American Style - Bell Box"

I took a load more photos including some of the back rooms, which were dark, so I plan to go back with a torch and I noticed I missed a few places.

Nice pictures  There's a few abandoned coffee shops and restaurants along the back rout from Yamaguchi to Hiroshima. back in the 80's and early 90's coffee shops or cafes were extremely popular in Japan. Many of them are still standing but have been closed for years. There's also a few abandoned Pachinko places. I really must take a trip out there one day to grab a few shots.
