I'm wondering, since it is one of those games that seem to be getting very mixed reviews. Some people are loving it, some people hate it, and many people have very different opinions on it. What is good and bad about it?
I want to play it, but will need to get into more debt with my credit card in order to play it very well .
Im playing it right now, Its a blast now that I got my technical issues sorted out. Still need a new video card to enjoy it properly. Its quite hard to aim with the FPS Im getting. Nonetheless, fun!
What technical issues have you had? Personally I haven't played it much, mostly because I keep dying and I practically have to restart the entire game each time. It lets me do a quicksave, but then if I try to load it a few seconds later it tells me the savestate doesn't exist. It will, however, load it if I close and restart the application. Needless to say, this makes it pretty much unplayable. Piece of shit.
Yeah, I played it..... some 3 years ago, when it was in the original Beta form, at the last ECTS! Of course, the release is different. My colleagues all seem to like it, but say it is quite power-hungry, so use a decently specced machine.
Technical stuff relating to my TV and overscan, Im not using a monitor so this should affect anyone else but if it does you should already know about it ;P I manually go out and save, The quicksaves get over-written pretty quick. The game auto saves whenever you may be in danger (bottom right icon of a disk). This might be because you keep closing the app when its saving. Also, try Novice. Thats what Im going through with thanks to the framerate.
Yeah I gotta get a new GPU and maybe even CPU too (and then other things, fuck I need a new PC just for a game...) I'm not into debt but since the new card will get obsolete as fast as the old card did, I'll rather use that money in a Wii, X360.......even a PS3! GPU prices are really high right now, I mean c'mon! $600 for a high end? back in 98 you could get a topnotch Voodoo2 for $200... I say those rumors of price fixing between nvidia and ATI are true, theres no way production costs went 300% more in less than a decade (it should be the opposite!). Whoa, that reminds me when I was playing max payne 2 and I was crossing a bridge at the end of that episode then an enemy came, I went bullettime to the side and was falling when the damn machine did a autosave and bam! I died, and when it loaded I died again, an infinite loop... So I had to do the whole friggin episode again, a long boring oneOH:
Well, let me ask this: Does it depend more on the graphics card or the CPU? Graphics card I should be fine with (7800GT), while the CPU not as much (AMD Atlhon 64 3000+); got a 1.5 Gigs of ram, though. Also, are the glitches to the point that make the game unplayable, or is it small things that can be avoided?
Moreso on the GPU. any 7xxx series nvidia card that is above 7600 should be able to run it at medium-high settings at decent frame rates. That 3000+ CPU can be OCed. I have mine (also a 3000) OCed to a 3500+. I plan on getting 3800X2 and either a 7950GT or 8600GTX when those come out mid-April. here's a list of what I'll have to upgrade: Power Supply (to 500watt) 7900+ Video card (or ATI equivilant) 3800X2 CPU or Opteron Equivalent. I have 2gigs of RAM at least . My current card is a crappy 6600.
I've noticed the little disk icon too, but how the hell do you load the autosaves? There aren't any in the "Load" menu. You ought to know that, while it'll probably be playable with that setup, it won't run very fast. I have a Core 2 Duo 1.86Mhz and a GeForce 7950GT, and I can't get it to run much faster than 60fps even if I turn the resolution way down. And this is if I change the settings to "high" and turn off fullscene antialiasing. At 1440x900 (my monitor's native resolution) the framerate fluctuates between like 20 to 30fps. This is ridiculous because it doesn't look much better than HL2, and HL2 runs at around 100fps with everything set to maximum.
But is it 939? I've a 3200 and cant find nothing below the 4200+ in 939. The sad thing is that that CPU is more expensive than a C2D, so I could sell my motherboard, add a few bucks and get a way more powerful system for almost the same price. The 8600 looks good but I heard the difference gap between that and the 8800 is much more than the one between the 7xxx series GPUs.
I got a 939 4800+, and a 7800GT. Overlocked the core and mem on the GT just so I can get playable framerates at 1280x720. I cant do 1920x1080 or I get 9FPS. You should be ok in lower resolutions, 1024 or something. The dynamic lighting is the biggest hit, everything else could be maxed at 1920x1080 but once you change that to dynamic its a whole new ball game. And hot damn the realtime light changes are fantastic in this game. Its beautiful. Most of the time in the game only 50% (one core) is being used off my CPU, so I dont think they have proper dual core support. I think your money is better spent on the video card side if you choose to upgrade for this game.
So I'm guessing I won't be able to run this at my native 1920x1200 with this then:2.4GHz core 2 duo, 7900gt, 2gb pc2-6400.:noooo: Everything manages well until now on this system!
Maybe steadster, the CPU might help you out XD But I wouldnt count on it. This game is terrifying when you go undergound
Hmm, from the sound of it, it reminds me of Oblivion. I was going to upgrade to a dual core sometime, although I may just create a new computer all together.
I thought the same at first, but the restrictions are much more notcable. However I just took a look at the map and if thats any indication the game world is HUGE. The only thing is theres regular load points which load different maps. So in that reguard its not really like Oblivion.
Is the game mod friendly? It seems like user created patches and modifications would make the game much more manageable.
Im not sure about mods, though I hear the first patch that was just released doesnt work with previous saves, so Im going through without it. Im at the point where I can make a choice as to joining up with one of two groups..Oh..damnit :\ Its a hard choice too XD Took a nice shot Enjoy! Also, a tip. If your tired of having to travel a lot for various quests, I suggest getting the blue orb artifacts that you can see near the lower left of the screen. They each increase indurance by 33%, so Im able to run non stop as long as I want. It makes things much more enjoyable. The name of them escapes me at the moment though. Edit: Christ! Dudes are seriously powerful at this point. Finally sniper rifles!!!
This game is almost stupidly hard at the medium level. THe pistol you start out handles nothing like a real gun. You can't kill anything without a headshot, and the gun seems to be ineffective at anything under 10 yards. So basically all I have been able to do so far is die at the farmhouse and not advance at all. Generally I blaze through most FPS on hard, so this is a bit of a challenge. However it seems that their vision of difficulty is just stacked HP, not good AI, so I am wondering if I should bother playing it this hard. Most foes seem to fun around to the same spot, and just charge you when they see you. It sure isn't making the game more challenging, just frustrating. BTW turn off dynamic lighting if you're tired of all the jaggies, there's a bug in the engine that breaks AA if you have it on, and now ETA on the fix yet.
