There's a patch already. Should fix some of the common bugs. World Wide: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/ST...rld_Wide;77221 USA Only: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/ST..._US_ONLY;77220 But guess what. When you apply the patch, you have to start over, it doesn't patch the saved game files... http://forums.pcper.com/showpost.php?p=4037012&postcount=2
Fear is a joke compared to this XD Theres this one bastard whos invisible, and all you can see is a slight sillouette. Along with the white eyes. Its very hard to spot as usually theres anomalies all around the area too. Kev: Id go apply the patch then start a new game on Novice. Even at Novice Im having trouble with the later characters in the game. My god damn gun keeps jamming every 5 bullets, Its used up :\ I need to find a new one damnit.
Wait wait, the weapons actually get broken over time? damn... BTW how "invisible"? like the elites in Halo?
I never played Halo, But they have that invisible shader that lots of games use. However in the dark its VERY hard to notice. Also I found that searching an area (an entire area) and learning whats what is best. If you dont have any time based quests (optional ones only afaik) then take the time to search the zones. It helps out a whole ton and you really appreciate how much work went into crafting the game. I just got a handle on "The Garbage" with a bit more to explore until Im satified that I know the lay of the land there.
Someone was asking earlier why saves dont work, apparently: If your windows username has a space, stalker quicksaves won't load.
Without having the chance to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. yet (praying for a console port, so I might be able to fit it into a play schedule), I'd just like to point out that F.E.A.R. featured some invisible wall'n roof climbing melee bastards that were pretty nasty to spot (besides during the first encounter with them) unless you flashed them in the face with your flashlight. (along with the darned "somewhat out of nowhere" ghosts you'd encounter more frequently later in the game). Created quite a lot of panic moments when playing on insane on the 360 atleast. (sorry, don't know how the easier difficulties are in F.E.A.R. and how S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S.'s difficulty is, 'cause as pointed out before, I've yet to have the honor/chance to give it a go). However, based on what I've seen of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it's not the type of game you'd use F.E.A.R. as a comparison title for.
I certainly wouldnt compare the two. FEAR was more of a panic game, you had human enemies and some with psychic abilities. I wasnt too frightened by FEAR, mainly just the parts where enemies jumped out from nowhere and made a loud noise and such. The setting kind of killed it too. An office building isnt very scary STALKER has a much more creepy vibe, with derelict buildings all around. The games setting adds a lot to the fear.
A short little video just showing how creepy the underground area's are: http://dot50cal.the-horror.com/STALKER.mp4 You'll need an x264 decoder, like FFDSHOW: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm Its just me raiding this underground area and running into some odd things for the first time. And yes I play the game like an old man XD
