I just downloaded it. I'm thinking about transferring all of my Japan-Games.com stuff there....

    Any warnings or recommendations?

Its a really complicated, and powerful, piece of software. If you can find a template, or can make your own, to customize to your liking, then go for it, but a lot of the templates just aren't all that good (though there are exceptions, check out RocketThemes for example)

Yeah, good piece of kit but can be a bit hefty for some.

All of the above, it has its complications and lots, lots, lots of customization options. The big deal or pain in the ass for many is getting a good template or making their own, once that is done it's just a matter of time and a bit of trial and error until you get used to it.
You can merge accounts with other things such as phpBB message boards, and there is even an online store mod which is pretty cool.

    Joomla is great.

Just one warning..... Keep it updated with the latest versions and patches. Since it's open source it is prone to exploits and hacks.

    Cheers

I've learned my lesson with templates. I make any the very minimum customizations, even if it means keeping the site more basic than I'd like it to be. I never want to be in the forum area of any website posting a message that begins with, "I just upgraded to version X.X, and I can't seem to...."
