I don't know about XDK, but in general, on Flash of Platter HDD, if nothing was overwritten you can recover data. Your mileage may vary depending on encryption, karma, and what not. It's better to avoid any writing to the disk to avoid loss of data.

Recuva and R-studio recovery are good starting points.

Google those software to find info. I don't have the time to help live or write a tutorial.

First thing to do is to do a complete image of the drive. There are some rudimentary tools to recover files one by one apparently, Demon knows best but you know, at least this will give you the option of recovering files as tools mature. Using any HDD imaging tool in your operating system of choice should work, so long as you are grabbing the complete thing.

So long as standard precautions are fine, dont hit format, no electric shock, the usual, it should be fine. Ive done it quite a bit. Once you make the image, you could restore it to another drive, toy with the image itself using recovery programs, etc, all without harming the original.

R-studio and DD allow you to do a complete disc image for further analysis.

I personally recovered over 1000 photos from a fast-formatted SD card using r-studio.

Best tool is Testdisk, but not for a first use, especially since the software is powerful and the tutorial believes you know what you are dealing with. I use that for my professional recoveries, it never let me down.
