Hi, I found one of these at a garage sale. I know very little about computers or video game hardware, but someone on Reddit suggested I post on here. Any suggestions to how to go about seeing if anything worthwhile is still on it? Pics posted here: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/g5-with-microsoft-stickers-on-it.1939899/
Honestly, best way to check is to boot it up and hope for the best. Without the OS, it is far less interesting than if it works.
Yeah, none left MS with an OS intact sadly. Still an Xbox collector would love to have this, they are just so heavy to ship. Edit: from reddit Depending where you live, 99.9% of these (500) were sent back to Microsoft. Once Microsoft was done with them the hard drives were removed and the units were sold first come, first serve to Microsoft staff ($300-400). By looking at your pictures, whoever had it used it with Mac OSX as they removed the tape over the onboard LAN port. But it still retains the Intel PCI Nic in the top slot. The video card actually makes this an Alpha II, these were shipped out in a separate white box with directions to install, once installed, the Xenon version number would change. Please cut up another one for your bench and spare this one. =)
Most likely not, but still worth 150 or so. A local Xbox collector would love to have this and shipping is crazy. What country / state are you in?
Nice find. Kind of reminds me back in the day when I saw a original xbox alpha kit for sell but it was just running windows.
I made a booboo @federationofideas I accidently messed up your post. Please post again, I'm unable to retrieve it.
