Some folks on here are into Superguns and Arcade set ups. Some are into Pinball.

Who has gone to the effort (and cost!) of creating their own mini arcade though? Pics would be nice along with things to watch out for or that they have learned while setting such a thing up.

Estimations of the average shipping cost of a standard stand up within the USA would also be interesting (I realise it would vary depending on distance).

I have my personal mini-arcade hah. Ive never had to ship a cabinet across the US though, but it ranges from 250-350 or so on average. My setup consists of a Playchoice 10 cabinet, San Franisco Rush to Rock sitdown, NeoGeo 4 slot, and an old midway cabinet converted to Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter 2

I used to own a broken Turbo Outrun cab ($40!), but it was a PCB with a suicide battery, and I didn't have any money for a replacement board. When I moved to England for a few months, the cab had to go as well :(

    Sven666 has a nice setup.

If you are serious about getting a cab, you should ask some of the guys at shumps to put you in touch w/ Matsu in Cali. He sells Japanese blast city, Egrets, etc. etc. which everyone knows, are the only cabs worth owning.

Thanks for the pointer. Not much of a shump fan myself, I'm looking to get a Neogeo based cab and probably a Street Fighter 2 one to start with, then move on from there.

What is the best pinball table, I wonder?

Well, you can put whatever you want in the cab. Those are just the standard cabs you will find in Japan (the arcades last hope)... makes buying/replacing parts (including the panel) much easier, especially if you're not Handy Fucking Dan.

That reminds me... I should go look at the "Mame Cab of Shame" list for a laugh.

Oh, I didn't read your first post correctly. When you said cabs, I thought you meant the full game and cabinet, not just the cabinet. I just figured you were mentioning obscure shump games from Japan to prove your leet status

Thanks for the tip. I'm not a Handy Fucking Dan, but I might give the whole cab building project a go in the future.

Hmm, shouldn't this be in the Arcade forum, not the Rare forum??

Go to neo-geo.com - you'll find plenty of MVS cabs for sale over there. Or eBay (which will list shipping costs - IF the seller will ship).

The problem with shipping is that to ask a carrier to do it, you'll likely have to have the machine palleted. It is often cheaper to hire a van yourself.

For the record, the best pinball game out there is Williams' Funhouse. Don't get sucked into the ones with the gimmicky dot matrix screens.

Regardless of what you do with your arcade, bookmark this page:

    http://homearcade.org/BBBB/

I cannot tell you how many people (myself included) have purchased parts from Bob or used the guides he has up. I built my own cabinet kit and used the wiring diagrams on his site to wire it up exactly how I wanted it (can use arcade PCB, but can also switch to console systems).

Nah, my leet status is common knowledge now. :)

Seriously, I never cared about cab conformity until I played on nothing but Astro/Blast/Net City. Then, a few Taito Egrets. They're all very nice cabs, and stylish looking (except the Egret 29 which looks like ass if you ask me). I assume Happ shit would fit in them, but I would have to ask why at that point. Just seems the standard way to go is w/ the above cabs & Sanwa/Seimitsu parts.

I will have to get a new wife before I get a cab. Besides, newborns & kids that don't pause just don't work.

Ooops. That was a slip. Obviously, meant "games that don't pause."
