I hope so. But I wouldn't put it past nintendo to come out with another handheld for no apparent reason. The Switch doesn't count.
They're still making 3DS games. Metroid: Samus Returns came out recently. More games are planned for this and next year. Obviously the system and/or the games are still somewhat profitable, otherwise they wouldn't keep producing games. Does that mean that Nintendo will release a new handheld system? I don't know. We won't know that unless they announce it. However, Nintendo's handheld systems have previously made Nintendo a lot of money, so it seems like they have an incentive to do it. I think it's unlikely Sony will release a new handheld, though. They've always had difficulty competing in the handheld market, and the PS Vita even more so than the PSP.
Mobile games are a thing - unless they "don't count" either? Dedicated and branded gaming handhelds seem to be very much on the decline, but pretty much everybody has a smartphone and/or tablet etc., or you can go for a set top box geared specifically towards gaming and play the very same games on it. (Only, let's not speak of the quality of most of those games... but then again what platform didn't have its share of shovelware?)
Now that the main Pokémon games are being developed for the Switch, it's kind of a confirmation for me that the 3DS (or 2DS whatev) is the last true Nintendo handheld
I'm of the opinion that the Switch is a handlheld that plugs into a TV. Nintendo knew what market they had cornered.
It absolutely counts The switch is so irrelevant stores are having trouble keeping stock. *rolls eyes*
This is what I like to see when I wake up Artificial shortages created by nintendo to sell a product that would otherwise sell poorly. Same applies to Snes and NES mini units.
Here in my country the Switch got much more popularity in the streets than Wii U. No one knew or cared about the wii u, except for baby nerds or console enthusiasts.
Look how anti Nintendo I used to be and even I want a switch. I'm just waiting for those launch year growing pains to be worked out... That and Retro console buying spree. But quite a few games on it that I want, some of which I'd buy over the PS4 Version, Like Sonic Forces and maybe Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. I think the reason The Switch is doing so well, is because Nintendo isn't trying to compete any more but complement. While at the same time trying to get a few Big name games like DOOM that have the appeal of being played while you're on the Can.
WiiU was marketed so bad that it doesnt matter if it surpasses the WiiU Remember the Wii? It just prints money man.
Well this topic got off track quickly. 10/10, PB I'm on the "Switch counts as a handheld" side, since, you know, it's a game console you hold in your hand when you play
