If you can take a shit and play games at the same time and you can't also make calls with it, It's a handheld.
It's on track. The switch is a handheld and home console approach in a capacity that works for the most part. It is as mobile as a Vita is and as stationary as a PSTV is but as a single device.
The shortages aren't artificial, are they? I thought there was a shortage of certain components, and they were in a semi-bid war with Apple to secure them. That doesn't really make any sense.
I don't think you can say for sure that there is an artificial shortage. Unless you are privy to some information the rest of us aren't? There are actual limits on how much product they can produce for sale.
They are definitely artificial. Nintendo is great at saying they will meet shipping demands then only giving each store a handful of units. Its crazy to believe that Nintendo thinks only a few people will buy their system at any given store. Look back at how almost no stores had Wiis for a while.
Barely? I mean I'm sure asking about the state of the handheld game industry has everything to do with Nintendos ability to supply Switches. Artificial supply is clearly not affecting the general gaming industries views. As for what constitutes a handheld console, my thought is if it's marketed as a handheld gaming console, then it's a handheld game console. Did you buy something marketed as a phone? My guess is you bought a phone then. The Switch is marketed as a hybrid between a home game console, and a handheld game console. You could play the PSP on the TV as well, we all considered that a handheld. Did the Gameboy lose its handheld status when the Super Gameboy came out? No, it just gave us more options.
I'm not sure if sony will follow up the Vita, Its 6 yrs old now & the Ps TV was a complete flop. I use mine for remote play more then actual vita gamews. I personally think their gonna have pull something amazing out of the bag If they are gonna try handhelds again.
Sony isnt making another ps vita in no shape or form. It would have been the "switch" in its day if they marketed it right and had hdmi right out the jump with DS4 controller support. So yea in a sense still i think the 3ds is the last true handheld. The switch is... a handheld kinda but in theory so are our phones, tablets and pocket pcs like gpd. Makes you wonder what is a handheld these days?
This is why there's a 3DS and a Switch. While the line that separates the two isn't as clear as it used to be, I feel the 3DS feels like a handheld while the Switch feels like a portable console. The Switch can be set up as a console, just like you could with say, a Playstation with screen attached. This is the main distinction between the two devices, IMO.
yea most i heard is the rumors are false due to the fact they screwed up the ps vita and the switch would be its rival http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/09/26/sony-doesnt-plan-to-make-a-switch-competing-vita-successor
People are talking about switch shortages and whenever I go to a Gamestop they always have them in stock Amazon almost always has them in stock so Idk https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01LTHP2ZK/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
I like it when consoles are supported longterm, and Nintendo has had a horrible track record with that, which is why I'm hesistant to buy Nintendo this generation. They dropped Wii U like it was a hot potato, and immediately dropped online service for the Wii the second the Wii U came out. Now Nintendo wants to charge for online play for the 2 online games everyone is going to want to play? Mario Kart and Smash, maybe also Splatoon. People explain it costs money to create matchmaking servers. It doesn't cost that much, especially if not hosting the actual servers being played on, but rather just connect multiple ips with one another.
