Are there retro videogame stores in Japan?

Anyone who has been or lives in Japan. Are there any stores that still sell old Japanese video game consoles (SG-1000, Famicom, Super Famicom, etc)?

If there are, are they cheaper to buy them there, or to buy stuff like that at eBay or in the US.
(For ex: A Japanese Famicom Disk System: 100 USD eBay = 11,173.36 JPY)

You bet your arse there are !! THere are quite a few in Tokyo / Akihabara as well as any other big city. Even here in Shimonoseki I can get a few Mark III / Famicom Disc System games and 100's of SFC / MD / Saturn games. Of course it's cheaper than buying them on Ebay but only if you come here and buy them yourself.

Most of it purcased at Chiba Hard-Off and in Akihabara.

I don't blame AntiPasta. I would do the exact same!

Do you have an estimate on all that in Yen or dollars, any one.

But some of the stuff in Akihabara is marked up so don't always buy the first copy you see if you do happen to go to there.

The place is Akihabara and the building you're talking about is the softmap store I believe.

Sofmap probably wouldn't have 1 floor dedicated to a specific system. Medialand is about 5 floors, but they're more divided up into generation than system.

Akihabara epitomizes Japan. It's got everything you could want game,anime,electronics-wise, all in one area, literally all on top of each other. It just wouldn't work in the states. Even with big cities like New York and LA, the US is not a 1-city centralized country. 25% of the population of Japan could get to AKihabara in under 90 minutes -- that says a lot.

Yeah, Japan is _too_ centralized, which really bugs me sometimes. Imagine in the States, you live in like, Seattle, or somewhere, and a store clerk says, "Oh, we don't sell that model of camera; you'd better go down to L.A. for that."

Not for me. I like the convenience. I often went to Akiba nayway, so it was no skin off my back if I had to go there for something I wanted.

I'm another who loves the convenience of Japan. Sure beats the UK with bloody shops closing not long after you get out of work.

I'm wondering, would japanese retro game stores buy used foreign consoles and games?
