no, thats actually not how it works, rule for ebay is "highest bid in auction time wins" not "time is running until no one bids higher" ... thats a big difference ...

eBay used to allow that option - if there are bids in the last 5 mins, extend auction by 5 mins until no more bids for 5 mins.

That's just what yahoo Auctions Japan does. I hate that bloody system. There I was staying up till 3am biding on something for Importaku when some one out bid me with 10 minutes to go. No problem I though. I'll wait until the last 10 seconds then place a higher bid :-D Little did I know that when I did that the clock shot back up by 5 minutes :smt067 That really pissed me off because then the other guy placed a bid. We went on like this for 45 minutes until the other guy gave up. What a bloody waste of time ! I hate sniping too ! If you want to bid then do it properly ! Don't be a cheating fuckhead. You couldn't go to a real auction and ask a robot to stand in for you while you went out to take a shit or screw your mates entire family including the dog now could you?

You know that Crow: City of Angels was an Acclaim game. You might want to ask a certain someone if they got one at another auction. You never know.

Actually, sniping couldnt be possible in a real auction--it would just prolong things. However, If a real auction was timed (I guess) people would maybe snipe and then a riot ensues. :-D
I dont use sniping programs, BTW.

well is this called sniping too? i wait for the auction to be in the last 10 seconds, reload the page, type in the amount that equals the maximum pain i can take, press "bid" and then see if i have won when the page has reloaded. this way i have lost quite some auctions because of "wrong password" or somebody else doing the same, but i guess thats only fair. ;)

Sniping is not dishonourable or wrong in any way. Why does everyone get all hissy about them? I've been sniped before--so what? I get more pissed off about the people who seemingly have endless and bottomless fat sacks of cash on eBay--that is, the losers who get in huge bidding wars and take shit I want up way high. I don't bitch about it, but I don't want to get in a bidding war with some retard--so I just place a bid in the last 30 seconds. I win 90% of the time, with 1/10 of the annoyance.

I don't mind the people who mannually snipe...its people who use programs to do so. Too much of an unfair advantage compared to an average ebay user.

I don't really believe staying until the last minute and doing it manually is unfair. Call it strategy.

The software, however... that's REALLY cheap and unfair.

    I have a doubt, though.

What happens if two people have the sniping software and bid on the same item??

Dimensional vortex? End of the universe? Shootout?

Let me tell you a story, about bidding the "polite" way.

I saw Dragon Force, on Ebay, and *gasp* it had everything with it for once! My mom placed a bid, and the other person bid right back, this went on until I said, "Wait, WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!......Lets bid on the last hour of the item or around there." That one damn day, the price went from 34.99 to 54.99. When I came back the last day, the other guy got into another Bid war, and the price was 79.99 on the last day. My mom said that I dont need the game if it goes any higher, and I said, "Just dont start bid wars, and we wont have to worry about it!!!!" I sniped the guy and got it for around 85.00 S and H included.

Teh moral of teh story is
Dont start bid wars, and Life isnt always fair, get used to it. :smt045

thats a common mistake most people make when thinking about sniping: not the last bid wins, the highest one does !!!! you will win an item if your max is higher than that of all snipers and "normal" bidders, if you bid in the first 5 minutes of an auction ...

    Ha! I see.

But WHAT would happen if both sniping softwares had the same maximum and were set on the same item?

Global destruction? The Internet implodes? You have to cut the item in half ?

Perhaps they get a message saying they got the item, both at the same time. Resulting in a lawsuit, thus myabe getting ebay the extend option again. :smt023 :smt043
