Was thinking it might be a good group to set up so we can see each other "for real". It could be made invitation only too to keep the non essential morons out. I'm really bored, it would give me something to do. What do we think?
Hmm, do we really want to bring attention to ourselves? Sure, the site is pretty well known, but at the same time it is still kinda 'underground'. Do we really want the publicity? There are a lot of people with a lot of nice stuff who don't want people knowing who they are, or where there stuff is. That's how you end up coming home and finding you had a break-in, or getting a letter from Microsoft requesting their gear back.
We'll still won't know who's who (username vs real name) ... anyways, it's just not my kind of things and I agree with the publicity argument of retro
Some prefer anonymity more than others. *looks at Kevin* I have yet to see what he really looks like. Any pic or video of him has him wear a helmet or an image right over it.
Fair point. Like I said, I'm just bored, thought it could be an idea worth pitching to casual users of the site. I'm not a Facebook gossip whore, I've just found it to be pretty damn useful on my travels and I don't meet many people these days who don't use it.
I used to use Facebook a lot a few years ago. But I got sick of the hundreds of app invites. Super obnoxious. I mainly use MySpace these days.
No offense, but in my personal opinion I don't see a way where a facebook group can be useful and the most important, I doubt it can be good for the site. I mean, even when this is an open forum most of the members share similar interests, respect each other and behave without having to be controlled. I'm afraid that an excess of publicity can end in hordes of morons invading the sites only because it's about gaming (I've seen something similar in a forum I used to be and it reached the point that the site had to close ), and I don't think anyone of us want that. I'm not saying something like that is gonna happen, but I see this kind of publicity as an unnecessary risk... However, I think we could have a topic to share facebook usernames, what do you guys think about that?
No offense, but I hate FB mainly due to the sheer weight of pointless apps and invitations to stupid causes or people's pet hates / passions! Everyday I wade through yet more invitations hitting 'ignore / ignore'. The more I use social network sites, the more anti-social I become!
I know what you say about app invitations some apps caught my attention but some others are just lame. I must have about 50 pending right now Anyway, I see facebook as an awesome tool to find people I haven't seen in a long while. For example, I had been a long time trying to find people from my school to make a reunion party (I only kept in touch with 2 people from there), one afternoon I had the idea to find them on FB and by the night I had found almost everyone! But yeah, I think you should have an option to ignore all app invitations, or at least all invitations for a determined app...
You can block an App, its right under the ignore button and you can choose to block all apps sent by one user. For the past 6 months I've never received an App request.
With so many people on my FB acc I have had to do this time and time again, and although the 'ignore' button is successful in stopping a single app from a single user, I don't seem to be able to stop all further attempts of the same app from other members... they do the rounds like viral emails all clogging up the arteries of networking! The only app I was recently interested in was one for retro games, which once applied the Java app failed to load. Sheeesh! Typical! Anyhow, that's a side issue! Even if it were flawless, my response would be negative on this one I am afraid. Various reasons, mainly remaining somewhat anon, plus I need to cut down on my online time, not increase it! If you do proceed, have fun! ;-)
