I talk about polypropylene sleeves to be exact; what you mean are petrol-based PVC-sleeves, which are a lot thicker and less transparent. I don't use PVC-based sleeves because I don't need to protect my vinyl with the sleeve and I want them to be transparent. It's mainly supposed to prevent them from getting dusty, so thin and crystal clear sleeves are okay with me.

Seems we collect the same shit.

My jazz collection is the stuff of legend. Or would be if everything I had were original pressings and not reissues.

I'm working on the hip hop side.

I dream of one day having a complete Crydamoure, Roulé collection :)
It's french house music, most famous probably being Stardust - Music sounds better with you.
Crydamoure was where Guy-Manuel (Gold Helmet) produced tracks before Daft Punk.
And Roulé was Thomas Bangalters (Silver Helmet) record label, before Daft Punk :D

Yeah I love house music, but finding some on Vinyl has proved difficult most of what I find is that barely music modern crap that is indistinguishable from other EDM.

I usually find mine on discogs or ebay, but some of them have been found in record stores as well, bought one in Germany, London, and most of the Daft records, have been bought here in Denmark.
Got a whole bunch of CD's as well, but this is the Vinyl thread I suppose :D

Really easy to get Daft Punk's stuff on Vinyl regardless of where you are in the world. Unless it's the really really early stuff like Musique Vol 1 or the soundtrack for Tron Legacy. I did find a Promo Single for the song Musique though I regret not picking it up.

Random Access Memories should totally be listened to on Vinyl like it was intended to be listened to that way right down to the classic Columbia label on the discs. Touch, Lose yourself to dance, Fragments in time perfect on Vinyl.

If you are looking for the Musique/Da Funk single you can get it pretty cheap on http://www.discogs.com/sell/release/171632?ev=rb

Yes! absolutely agree that RAM is a album that should be played on Vinyl, would have liked to get the Random Access Memories Deluxe Edition, but didn't have the money at the time :/
Touch being my absolute favorite on the album :D

I would have got it too if I had my turntable at the time. Touch is my favorite as well, followed by Fragments in time.

The Chemical Brothers surprisingly sound amazing on vinyl too, but their albums get VERY Expensive. They need to start doing reissues.

It's the road DJ's have gone down. Who lugs around records when the standard sound system in a nightclub (or even a proper live music venue) isn't intended for true fidelity, especially considering live music is generally mixed for the back of the room?

I imagine a lot of the house/EDM you enjoy is 90's stuff, well if you're looking for DnB, House etc on Vinyl from the 90's, good luck - Vinyl famously hit an all time low in the 90's, especially the back end of the decade when house-EDM started to hit its prime, so you're going to run into the problem I had finding HIVE's "Devious Minds" LP. It was pressed in one country in 1998, VERY limited.

I could have got the one track I wanted (Ultrasonic Sound) on a 12" single for about a pound + postage, but the entire LP is a gem and I wanted it.

The Chemical Brothers are the same, especially for the 1997 "Dig Your Own Hole" LP that has the smash hit "Setting Sun". It's about £20 from the US, and that's VG+ condition. Setting Sun on it's tod on a 12" single LP? Pennies in the same condition. About £1.50 if you wanted it in NM condition.

There are many contemporary house tracks I'd like to own on wax, alas they just aren't pressed these days. You can find the bog standard mix of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" on a 12" Single LP, but Cedric Gervais's mix isn't pressed, despite being played much more often in nightclubs, again DJ's just don't bother with vinyl anymore.

I believe in Leeds there's a small record shop that specializes in singles, often formerly owned/used by DJ's, LOTS of jungle, breakbeat etc.

I wouldn't bother with single EPs, that's really something for DJs. A lot of vinyl won't depreciate significantly if you buy reasonably, so to me it honestly doesn't matter if a record I want costs $20 or $2.

Even some of the more recent Chemical Brother albums are going up, Further is going way WAY up in value. I do have their Compilation Brotherhood which has MOST of the tracks I really like but it's missing a few. At least I can hear Block Rockin Beats and Setting Sun on Wax.

I am quite aware of how hard it is to get stuff from the 90s on VInyl. in any genre, House, DNB, Techno, Trance, Rock, I'd Love the Fragile or Mechanical Animals on Vinyl but yeah GOOD LUCK find them at a decent price.

I am heading to New York next month and Hitting up a few record stores, Hopefully I'll find some goodies there.

Ordering some METAL \m/ Grabbed Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast. 2nd Metal Album, Hard to choose, Reign In blood, Seasons in the Abyss, Cowboys from Hell, something more 80s

I'm torn. Only certain types of Metal sound good on Vinyl.

Good lord, Number of the beast sounded terrible. Very muffled. I thought it was my (not the best) Sound system until I threw Peace sells on the table.

What set ups do you guys have? I'm not going nuts with Vacuum tubes but I think I can do better than having my turnable plugged into an AUX Port of a 10 year old compact JVC System.
