Was just offering a place in case the .de didnt have enough attendees.
Plus seeing the distances between members in Germany, going to Amsterdam would not make it that much further..
At least going to another country is regardless of meeting people or not more interesting then a nearby city in the same country, and when here i'm glad to show people around if wanted (I do it often with couchsurfing.com anyway)
So using the same terminology, congrads with your flame?

I suggest to meet at the Retro Boerse in Bochum. This is also a good place to trade items!

I'm all for it - given it's not too far out, I'm close to Cologne.

Likely we bounced into each other at the last one.... I've been there.

With so much guy love before my eyes, I can't resist assuring you my participation on an eventual meet :)

I am located pretty much in the middle, somewhere near Hannover. I travelled to Munich once for a meet and it was a nightmare. 4hrs of trainride and 120 Euro for a ticket... sorry, but that would be too far for me. Berlin, maybe... Hamburg, definitely and Cologne - probably. :)

GDC(-Europe) and/or GamesCom would make an appealing "point of meetage" :)

Don't you think? Would be kinda "on topic" :D

That'd distract too much from the meetup part imho. What that would boil down to is meeting up with some people you don't know that are also interested in games, then going to the con as usual, only burdened with said bunch of people to keep track of...
One could pretty much just as well go there and chat up some random strangers instead. Shouldn't be too hard to find some game enthusiasts around a game con.

So far I like port187's suggestion best, but I don't really understand, much less speak, Dutch, and being forced to speak in tongues would take much of the fun out of it for me  If anyone came up with something similar (shop/museum visit, maybe some sightseeing, then on to drugs, blackjack & hookers :033:) in Germany I'd be in. Can't think of any good locations myself though.

I'm in the Hannover area too, and I just so happen to be travelling in the general direction of Munich (though not quite as far - somewhere near Erlangen) tomorrow. Can't do much about the travel time (though that'd probably be much more fun if we travelled in groups), but the price can be reduced significantly by keeping an eye out for special offers - I paid ~€140 including the return ticket, and with some tradeoffs could have reduced that even more to ~€115. Which is still expensive but bearable.

Someone able to host us in Munich?

I would be able to host around 10 people or so in Cologne.

i'm in Berlin now - home is still somewhere between hannover and the ruhrgebiet.

i'm a bahncard50 owner so i'd probably be down for anything. amsterdam sounds good. cologne sounds good - nobody suggested berlin, so i won't bring that up. i wouldn't want munich though, pretty much becausei hate that city :D

woulöd be nice to see other members, like babu from sweden and some guys from the uk, too!

    and twimfy!!! :)
