Good day, sorry to revive an old thread. I'm converting my xbox 1.1 to an Arcade machine at the moment, and got a new psu to replace the old one with. I know I can use a BC547 as the transistor, but what should I use for D1 and D2? Also, is it really needed for the transistor as they are quite scarce around where I live and buying online isn't an option where I am (costs are too high)

The diodes can be any small-signal diode - something like a 1N4148. They are there because the standby supply and PWR_OK from the PSU are 5V levels and the Xbox is expecting 3.3V levels. The transistor is necessary - the reason it's needed is that the signal to turn the PSU on from the Xbox is a high logic level, and the control input on an ATX supply has to switch to ground. You can use pretty much any NPN small signal transistor in this position.

Thank you for the extra information, upon myself being so nosy and all, I went ahead and tested it without the extra circuit. Seems like the PSU switches on by itself and keeps the power button in the "pressed" state as this causes the xbox not to boot but to remain in a startup-phase. I'm salvaging parts from old machines and stuff around here just to be able to set this up as getting parts where I am is more challenging than one would think. I have enough resistors though, bought myself a devkit of 1/4W resistors... little over 700 resistors in various colors and sizes.

EDIT: Upon investigation, I noted that on the old PSU that was in the xbox, it had a 5V on PWR_OK instead of 3.3V as you say the xbox is expecting. Could this mean I would just omit the diodes and just add the resistor and npn transistor?

EDIT 2: Okay, soooooo, it's working! I used a BC547B transistor with a 5.6K resister wired up same as the diagram, and I've omitted the 4 Diodes and only added a 1N4148 Diode on the 5VSB line going towards the xbox. It's switching on, no errors so far. Now just need to fix up my display :D
