I like it. Add these ones as well. +1 for 13 year old looking boy on the cover +1 for 20+ year old girl looking like a 13 year old boy err which one do we have in the picture above? I can't tell.
This is probably true, however I don't think the Japanese quite have the same knack for putting those sort of ingredients together into art. *insert Legend of Mana and Vagrant Story ramble*
They are definitely very classic. Also another one to add is ALL the Sonic games on the Mega Drive/Genesis. For that matter, the JP Mega Drive logo kicks the EU one in the face down an entire city block, IMO. ray:
I bet they are all just sitting back laughing at how hard a time the cosplay kids are going to have at trying to match it. designer 1 -> wait wait wait..... I got it then we will add overalls that are so big they couldn't possibly stay on. designer 2 -> HA wonderful. Now I'll add what looks like a creative design symbol but in ancient text reads "cosplay kids have no life" designer 1 -> Sweet ! .........but we still need a hat.
It's just like you said: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Light_Force Ok...what's next? Mobile Light Force 3 based on Thunder Force VI? What are they thinking? :banghead::banghead::banghead: Maybe the american one is better, but think about this fact: by seeing its cover you expect that the game will the a kick-ass beat-em-up or slash-em-up like Golde Axe (which the american cover is much better than the poor-drawing one at the japanese version and that's why I haven't include it at the list) or Black Tiger. But instead of that you get a cute platform slash-em-up. It's like releasing Super Mario Bros with covers like this:
Err, I don't think State-of-the-Art refers to the cover art. Rather to the game itself, which is indeed brilliant.
Not the first time the same cover has been used for different games. Goes all the way back to Atari Atari 2600 Star Raiders Atari 2600 Solaris
Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole (Megadrive/Genesis) japanese cover: american cover: What the... Is this supposed be an elf or an alien from Star Trek? Quinty (Famicom)/Mendel Palace(NES) japanese cover: american cover: Another american cover which screams "We hate cute, japanese covers." By the way, I have a huge dilemma: if Nintendo of America had such a big problem with the childish, japanese image of videogames why they made such a huge cencorship on the videogames themselves? Do they want to sell these games to mature gamers or little children? We make mature covers but we make the games without blood, deaths, religion references and so on? What are they thinking? Lords of Thunder (TurboGrafx/SegaCD) japanese cover: american cover:
