So you know port187, I was saying how many people pirate due to financial issues, not most. I do agree that people pirate due to the fact that the luxury is available. It's easy, it costs nothing (only the internet connection which you pay for regularily) and quite honestly people don't really see it as stealing. Although it can be compared to stealing, most people wouldn't go stealing from a store, the population of pirates is astounding and I believe that it is in excess of 60%. Whether its one little thing, people will do it because it gives them a sort of rush or just a good feeling to know you got something free It's like a deal at a store, but slightly more on the illegal side. Keep in mind that in no way am I saying I endorse piracy at all. You tried to make it seem as if I was working to contribute to an argument and made my post seem one sided. I was simply on a side note talking about the fact that some people pirate due to financial issues, so just please try not to make me seem like I'm trying to offer support to piraters. I just realized I went further than I said I would, so I won't bother responding if it deals with piracy.

The firmware was created initially so that there was a way to boot burnt disks. So that operations such as the king kong exploit could be put in motion.

Forget your backup/piracy theories. This is where it began.

These bans come down to this:

1- You're forbidden to thinker with the console software anmd firmware as it does not belong to you. You have a license to use it, but it does not belong to you...

2- You're going to face punishment if you do so and you're warned about it at the ToS.

3- They're kind enough to give you a second, a third, a fourth, a fifth chance as long you're willing to shell out money for the next console.

This time they're going after *HACKED DRIVES* not anything else. If you have a hacked drive, regardless what you do you will be punished.

I'm not doing this with you. I made what this topic is about quite clear I am sorry if you don't agree with it but piracy is an abuse of the FW that is not what it is intended for and yes it is a choice now you have been calm about the situation so far but its quite obvious you are also being passive aggressive and I did invent this topic for one reason and I did lay down the guidelines of discussion to avoid conflict dragging this out is not helping. Thank you for your input but I would like to remain on topic with the guidelines I have specified. Any conversation straying leads to board conflict and this is a prime example so if you would please [b[for the love of god[/b] drop this and everyone talk about the firmware detection / bans and news please.

That is not nessessarily true though it was one outcome of it. If you speak to C4E he will tell you himself the firmware was intended for the use of backing up your media and NOT to pirate. That is what firmware has always been for and I'm sorry that that is not what a lot of people use it for but as I said before no more piracy talk. Please keep ontopic about news and updates as pertaining to the recent bans. Thank you.

You can do whatever you like with the 360. Going online to a paid, private network and getting caught using counterfeit media is the issue.

An offline 360 can still play games, it's just not able to provide an online
    "experience".

Its also against the TOS to modify your console and the bans are jest. This I understand but as to avoid conflict I am trying to keep this strickly about the news of the bans and the technicality of the issue. All I ask is that people follow the guidelines as to insure peace and avoid avoidance of false accusation of the board board members due to popular stereotype.

If you want to keep it technical fine here we go:

The only way to go is probably a mod chip that allows dual boot of the original FW with online cap. and a modified FW with disabled network cap. and even then its paying MS doesn't find a way to check this but at least it will prevent people going online with a big I AM A PIRATE user sign on their head. (oh sorry I mean I am a backup user) which will alarm MS again to fix that glitch.

Otherwise I am sorry to say that MS will always have a way to check and so there will be a cat and mouse between the hackers and MS until the end of console life, and as users of this cat and mouse game you will be banned each time MS scores a point over the hackers.

Welcome to the online big brother generation THEY ARE WATCHING YOU :)

Just a question here just out of curiosity, let's say you paid a years sub. on MS live and you get banned in the first week would that mean you loose your money? I guess so just want to get it confirmed.

Well the dual boot firmware won't help you will both need a dual boot nand with a dual firmware because it stores the bad backup information to a disc. So you would possibly need two 360's my aim is to figure out what method of detection Microsoft is using to see the drive ATM. Also as for the little backup comment not everyone is a pirate that claims to use backups, my point still stand there. And yes to answer your question no live sub users do not lose money unless their account is banned. It is only the console that suffers in the end you end up losing more money to buy a new xbox but your account stays active in most cases. Thank you for progressing the thread though man. I don't want to stick on the same broken record of going no where hope you understand and no hard feelings.
